Menstruation has started again?
After undergoing vacuum aspiration in mid-November (with embryo resorption), I had a light period for 7 days in mid-December, but there was no significant flow, just a panty liner's worth.
I consulted a doctor and took menstrual regulation medication for 14 days.
On January 2, I had a normal menstrual period for 5 days (bright red), which then stopped.
Three days later, I experienced another period (brown discharge) that started light on the first day, and then turned into brown discharge that lasted for 3 days.
Will this affect my chances of conceiving in the future?

Dear Xiao Ting,
If you want to assess the condition of the endometrium, you may consider undergoing a hysteroscopy.
After confirming the status of the endometrium, you can discuss the issues related to abnormal menstrual cycles and flow with a gynecologist for treatment options.
It is recommended that you visit a gynecologist for a detailed examination and evaluation.

After undergoing a vacuum aspiration procedure, it is not uncommon to experience irregular menstrual cycles. The body goes through significant hormonal changes following such a procedure, which can lead to variations in menstrual flow, cycle length, and overall menstrual regularity.
In your case, it appears that your menstrual cycle has been affected post-procedure. The initial period you experienced in December lasted for seven days but was notably light, which may indicate that your body is still adjusting to the hormonal changes after the vacuum aspiration. The subsequent cycle in January, which started with normal red flow and transitioned to brown discharge, is also a common occurrence. Brown discharge typically indicates older blood that has taken longer to exit the uterus, and it can be a normal part of the menstrual cycle, especially after a recent procedure.
The use of hormonal medications, such as the ones prescribed to regulate your menstrual cycle, can also influence the timing and nature of your periods. These medications work by adjusting the hormonal balance in your body, which can lead to changes in menstrual flow and cycle regularity. It is important to follow your doctor's guidance regarding the use of these medications, as they can help restore your cycle to a more regular pattern.
Regarding your concern about future fertility, it is essential to understand that while irregular cycles can be concerning, they do not necessarily indicate a long-term issue with fertility. Many women experience irregular cycles after procedures like vacuum aspiration, and most will return to a normal cycle over time. The key factors that influence future fertility include the overall health of your reproductive system, the regularity of your menstrual cycles, and the presence of any underlying conditions that may affect fertility.
If your cycles do not normalize in the coming months or if you experience any additional symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or persistent irregularities, it would be advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further evaluation, such as hormonal testing or imaging studies, to ensure that there are no underlying issues that could affect your fertility.
In summary, while irregular menstrual cycles after vacuum aspiration can be concerning, they are often a temporary issue as your body adjusts. It is crucial to monitor your cycles and maintain open communication with your healthcare provider regarding any concerns you may have about your menstrual health and future fertility. Regular follow-ups can help ensure that any potential issues are addressed promptly, allowing you to focus on your overall reproductive health and future family planning.
