Color issues of the glans?

Hello doctor, I have previously treated an inflammation issue, and it seems that the medication has caused the skin on my glans to become thinner.
Currently, the area of the glans covered by the foreskin has become significantly darker in color (as shown in the image https://ppt.cc/fOyHyx).
Since it is not painful or itchy, I haven't monitored it closely, but it has persisted for a long time, and I am a bit concerned.
I would like to ask what might be causing this?

When it comes to changes in the color of the glans (the head of the penis) after inflammation treatment, there are several factors to consider. The skin in this area is sensitive and can react to various treatments, including topical medications. The deepening of color you are observing, particularly in the area covered by the foreskin, could be attributed to a few different causes.

Firstly, it is important to note that the skin on the glans can become thinner due to the use of certain topical medications, especially corticosteroids. These medications are often prescribed to reduce inflammation and can lead to skin atrophy, which may make the underlying blood vessels more visible, resulting in a darker appearance. If you have been using a topical treatment for an extended period, this could explain the change in color.

Secondly, the color change could also be related to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. After an inflammatory process, the skin can sometimes produce excess melanin, leading to darker patches. This is a common response of the skin to injury or irritation and can occur even after the inflammation has resolved. The fact that you are not experiencing pain or itching is a positive sign, as it suggests that there is no ongoing irritation or infection.

Another possibility is that the change in color is due to the natural variation in skin pigmentation. The glans and surrounding areas can have different shades, and factors such as blood flow, temperature, and even hormonal changes can influence the color. If the area is more engorged with blood due to increased sensitivity or arousal, it may appear darker temporarily.

It is also worth considering the role of hygiene and moisture. The area under the foreskin can retain moisture, which may lead to changes in skin condition and color. Ensuring proper hygiene and keeping the area dry can help maintain skin health.

If the color change persists or if you notice any new symptoms, such as discomfort, unusual discharge, or changes in texture, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. They may recommend a physical examination and possibly a biopsy if there are concerns about skin conditions or infections.

In summary, the deepening of color in the glans after treatment for inflammation could be due to several factors, including skin thinning from topical medications, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, natural variations in skin color, or hygiene-related issues. As long as there are no accompanying symptoms, it is likely not a cause for concern, but monitoring the situation and seeking medical advice if changes occur is always a prudent approach.
