Since the surgery on January 7th, there has been ongoing bleeding after bowel movements up to February 2nd?
I had a follow-up appointment on January 20th, and the doctor mentioned that the bleeding should stop by the end of the month.
However, I still experience mild pain after bowel movements, and there is bright red blood when I wipe, which usually stops after a couple of wipes.
Sometimes, I notice a thick blood plasma in the toilet.
Is this normal? I am currently taking Magnesium Oxide (for softening stools) and MEITIFEN S.R.F.C.
75MG (for inflammation relief), and I am also applying an anti-inflammatory ointment.
Should I schedule another appointment with my doctor?

Post-surgery bleeding after bowel movements can be concerning, especially if you are experiencing fresh red blood and pain. It’s important to understand the context of your surgery and the healing process involved. Based on your description, it seems you are dealing with some complications following a surgical procedure, possibly related to the rectal or anal area, given the symptoms you mentioned.
Firstly, the presence of fresh red blood after bowel movements can indicate several things. It might be due to hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or irritation from the surgical site. If the bleeding is minor and resolves quickly, it may not be a cause for alarm. However, if you are experiencing persistent bleeding, especially if it is accompanied by pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention.
The fact that you are still experiencing pain and bleeding after bowel movements, even if it is minor, suggests that your body may still be in the healing phase. The use of magnesium oxide for softening stools is a good approach to prevent straining during bowel movements, which can exacerbate bleeding. However, if you notice that the bleeding continues or worsens, or if you experience increased pain, it is crucial to consult your healthcare provider.
Regarding your medications, MEITIFEN S.R.F.C. (which contains an anti-inflammatory) can help reduce inflammation, but it’s essential to ensure that it’s appropriate for your specific condition. Always follow your doctor's recommendations regarding medication, and do not hesitate to ask them about any concerns you have regarding side effects or interactions with other medications.
In terms of when to seek help, consider the following guidelines:
1. Persistent Bleeding: If you notice that the bleeding continues for more than a few days or increases in volume, you should contact your doctor.
2. Increased Pain: If the pain becomes more severe or is not relieved by over-the-counter pain medications, it’s a sign that you should seek medical advice.
3. Signs of Infection: If you develop fever, chills, or notice any discharge that is foul-smelling, these could be signs of an infection, and you should seek immediate medical attention.
4. Changes in Bowel Habits: If you experience significant changes in your bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation, or if you notice blood in your stool that is not related to your surgical site, you should consult your doctor.
5. Follow-Up Appointments: If your doctor has advised you to return for a follow-up appointment, it’s important to keep that appointment, even if you feel your symptoms are improving. Your doctor can assess your healing and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
In conclusion, while some bleeding and discomfort can be part of the healing process after surgery, it’s essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They can provide you with the best guidance tailored to your specific situation and ensure that you are on the right path to recovery.
