Erectile function

About half a month ago, I noticed that the frequency of my morning erections seemed to decrease, and I also felt that my erections were not very firm during masturbation.
I went to the hospital to see a doctor, who said that it is difficult to determine without a sexual partner.
(I had surgery for urethral stricture when I was younger, so sometimes urination is not smooth; the doctor prescribed medication for me.
I'm not sure if this has any impact.
Currently, urination is smoother.
However, recently during masturbation, I do achieve an erection and can ejaculate, but it feels completely soft and it becomes flaccid very easily.
Is this erectile dysfunction? I masturbate about twice a week (which shouldn't be excessive), but I can definitely feel a lack of firmness.
Should I consult a vascular specialist to check if there are any circulation issues?

More Info

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common issue that can affect men of all ages, and understanding its causes and potential solutions is crucial for addressing the problem effectively. Based on the information provided, it seems that you are experiencing a decrease in the hardness of your erections, particularly during masturbation, and you have concerns about whether this constitutes erectile dysfunction.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
1. Psychological Factors: Stress, anxiety, and depression can significantly impact sexual performance. If you are feeling anxious about your sexual health or performance, this can lead to difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.

2. Physical Factors: Various physical conditions can contribute to ED, including cardiovascular issues, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, and neurological disorders. Given your history of urethral stricture surgery, it’s possible that there could be residual effects on your urinary and sexual function.

3. Medication Side Effects: Some medications can affect erectile function. If you are taking medication for urinary issues, it’s worth discussing with your doctor whether these could be contributing to your symptoms.

4. Lifestyle Factors: Poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption can all negatively impact erectile function. Regular physical activity and a balanced diet can improve overall health and potentially enhance erectile function.

5. Hormonal Issues: Low testosterone levels can lead to decreased libido and erectile difficulties. Hormonal evaluations can help determine if this is a contributing factor.

Solutions for Erectile Dysfunction
1. Consult a Specialist: Since you have a history of urinary issues, it may be beneficial to consult a urologist who specializes in sexual health. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including physical examinations and possibly blood tests, to assess hormone levels and overall health.

2. Psychological Counseling: If psychological factors are suspected, therapy or counseling can be beneficial. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is particularly effective for addressing anxiety and stress related to sexual performance.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Incorporating regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol can improve blood circulation and overall health, which may help with erectile function.

4. Medication Review: If you suspect that your current medications may be affecting your erectile function, discuss this with your healthcare provider. They may be able to adjust your medications or suggest alternatives that have fewer sexual side effects.

5. Hormonal Testing: If there are concerns about hormonal imbalances, a simple blood test can evaluate testosterone levels. If low testosterone is identified, hormone replacement therapy may be an option.

6. Vacuum Erection Devices (VED): These devices can help create an erection by drawing blood into the penis, which can be a useful tool for men experiencing ED.

7. Medications for ED: There are several oral medications available, such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and others, which can help improve erectile function by increasing blood flow to the penis.

Conclusion
Based on your description, it does seem that you are experiencing symptoms consistent with erectile dysfunction, particularly if you notice a significant change in the hardness of your erections and their duration. It’s essential to address this issue holistically, considering both physical and psychological factors. Consulting with a healthcare professional who specializes in sexual health can provide you with tailored advice and treatment options. Remember that ED is a common condition, and seeking help is a positive step towards improving your sexual health and overall well-being.
