Nipple issues
I have noticed a small lump under my left breast since I was a child.
I used to think it was a mosquito bite or an injury I caused myself, but it never hurt or bothered me.
A few years ago, I took a closer look and realized it was a nipple; I was surprised that I had not noticed it for over a decade.
I also found another one on the right side of my waist.
I quickly searched online, but the information was unclear, and I was left confused.
Doctor, is this serious? If I want to have it removed, which specialty should I consult?

I believe it is not another nipple but rather a common issue of a subcutaneous cyst.
As for whether to excise it, I suggest seeking the opinion of a specialist.

When it comes to concerns about changes in the breast, such as the presence of small lumps or unusual structures, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and seek appropriate medical advice. Based on your description, it seems you have discovered small lumps near your nipples, which you initially mistook for insect bites or minor injuries. It is understandable to feel alarmed upon realizing these are persistent structures, especially after many years of not noticing them.
Firstly, it is important to clarify that not all lumps or changes in the breast are indicative of serious health issues. Many breast lumps can be benign, such as cysts, fibroadenomas, or even normal anatomical variations. However, any new or unusual changes in the breast should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out any potential concerns, including breast cancer or other conditions.
Given your situation, the best course of action would be to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider specializing in breast health. This could be a general practitioner, a gynecologist, or a breast specialist. They will be able to perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as a mammogram or ultrasound, to further assess the lumps you have noticed. These tests can provide valuable information about the nature of the lumps and help determine if any further action is necessary.
If you are considering removal of the lumps, this would typically be done by a surgeon, specifically a general surgeon or a breast surgeon, depending on the nature of the lumps. During your consultation, the doctor will discuss the potential risks and benefits of surgical removal, as well as any other treatment options that may be available.
It is also worth noting that if you experience any additional symptoms, such as changes in the skin over the lumps, discharge from the nipples, or any pain or discomfort, you should seek medical attention sooner rather than later. These symptoms can provide important clues to your healthcare provider regarding the underlying cause of the lumps.
In summary, while it is natural to feel concerned about changes in your breast, the best approach is to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide a thorough evaluation and guide you on the appropriate next steps. Early intervention and proper assessment are key to ensuring your breast health and addressing any potential issues effectively.
