Does excessive masturbation cause frequent urination?
Hello Doctor, I am 34 years old and recently I have been experiencing frequent urination (only during the day, I do not wake up at night to urinate) and a slight burning sensation at the urethral opening when urinating (also during ejaculation).
I looked online and found that excessive masturbation could potentially cause frequent urination.
I usually masturbate once a day or every two to three days.
I would like to ask if this could be a urinary tract infection or inflammation.
I have consulted a urologist to check for prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia, but the doctor said that at my age, the likelihood is very low and did not perform any tests, only prescribed medication (I did not mention my masturbation habits at that time).
The doctor prescribed pain relief and medication for urinary issues, and I have currently stopped masturbating.
I would like to know if I should go for further tests.
Thank you for your response, Doctor.

Excessive masturbation is a topic that often raises concerns regarding its potential effects on urinary health, particularly in relation to frequent urination and discomfort during urination. While it is important to approach this subject with sensitivity and an understanding of the physiological aspects involved, it is essential to clarify that masturbation itself is generally considered a normal sexual activity and is not inherently harmful when practiced in moderation.
Frequent urination can be attributed to a variety of factors, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), prostate issues, bladder overactivity, or even anxiety and stress. The burning sensation you describe during urination and ejaculation could indicate a possible infection or inflammation in the urinary tract or reproductive system. It is important to note that while excessive masturbation is not typically linked directly to urinary tract infections, it can lead to temporary irritation or inflammation of the urethra, especially if done excessively or without adequate lubrication.
In your case, since you have already consulted a urologist who assessed your symptoms and prescribed medication without conducting further tests, it may be beneficial to follow up with them, especially if your symptoms persist or worsen. A thorough examination, including urinalysis and possibly imaging studies, can help rule out any underlying conditions such as a urinary tract infection, prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), or other urological issues.
It is also worth considering that psychological factors, such as anxiety about your symptoms or concerns regarding sexual health, can contribute to urinary frequency. Stress can exacerbate bladder sensitivity and lead to increased urgency and frequency of urination. Therefore, addressing any psychological components through relaxation techniques or counseling may also be beneficial.
If you have stopped masturbating and are still experiencing symptoms, it is advisable to return to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may consider additional tests, such as a urine culture, to check for infections, or a prostate examination if deemed necessary. It is crucial to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, including your masturbation habits, as this information can help them provide a more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
In summary, while excessive masturbation is not typically a direct cause of frequent urination, it can lead to temporary irritation. Your symptoms warrant further investigation to rule out infections or other urological conditions. It is essential to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider and seek further evaluation if your symptoms persist. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these concerns with a qualified professional is the best course of action.
