Glans issues
Hello Dr.
Liu: I was referred to you by a friend for a consultation.
I have a question regarding my glans, which seems to have some skin irritation or abrasion.
There is a small round mark on the right side of my glans that hurts when touched.
Additionally, when I rub other areas of my glans with my hand, it produces a substance similar to rubber eraser shavings.
Could this be peeling skin? Currently, I no longer experience this issue, and the wound has healed.
Is this something I should be concerned about?

There are indeed many issues.
The small round wound may be painful due to inflammation or other reasons.
As for the eraser-like substances, they could be smegma or secretions from sebaceous glands.
Please visit a hospital and consult a urologist for a thorough examination.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns regarding your glans issues. It's important to address any changes or discomfort in this area, as they can indicate underlying conditions that may require attention.
Based on your description, it sounds like you experienced a minor injury or irritation to the glans, which is the sensitive tip of the penis. The presence of a small circular mark that was painful to touch could have been a result of friction, an allergic reaction, or even a mild infection. The fact that the wound has healed and you are no longer experiencing symptoms is a positive sign, suggesting that it may have been a temporary issue.
However, the mention of a rubbery substance forming when you rubbed the glans could indicate a few possibilities. If this substance was smegma, a combination of dead skin cells and oils that can accumulate under the foreskin, it is generally harmless but should be cleaned regularly to prevent buildup. If it was something else, such as peeling skin, it could have been a sign of irritation or dryness.
Here are some key points to consider regarding glans health:
1. Causes of Glans Issues: Common causes of irritation or injury to the glans include friction from sexual activity, allergic reactions to soaps or lubricants, infections (such as yeast infections or sexually transmitted infections), and skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis.
2. Symptoms to Watch For: Symptoms that warrant further evaluation include persistent pain, unusual discharge, changes in color or texture of the skin, or the presence of sores or lesions that do not heal. If you experience any of these, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
3. When to Seek Help: If you notice any recurring issues, such as pain, discomfort, or changes in the appearance of the glans, it is important to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination and may recommend tests to rule out infections or other conditions.
4. Prevention and Care: Maintaining good hygiene is crucial. Regularly cleaning the area with mild soap and water can help prevent irritation and infections. If you are uncircumcised, ensure that you clean under the foreskin to avoid smegma buildup. Additionally, using lubricants during sexual activity can help reduce friction and prevent injuries.
5. Emotional and Psychological Aspects: It's also important to consider the emotional impact of any genital issues. Concerns about sexual health can lead to anxiety or embarrassment. Open communication with partners and healthcare providers can alleviate some of these feelings and help you feel more comfortable discussing your health.
In summary, while it seems that your issue has resolved, it is always wise to remain vigilant about any changes in your body. If you have any lingering concerns or if symptoms return, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing any issues early can prevent complications down the line.
