There is significant pain in the left testicle upon touch, and there is also pain in the lower abdomen?
Hello Doctor, I am 14 years old.
I previously had urethritis, but it was treated successfully with medication.
Yesterday morning, while I was in class, I experienced abdominal pain and felt the urge to have a bowel movement.
I tried to hold it in and also held back gas.
Later, I noticed that my left testicle hurt when I touched it.
I went to the health center, and the nurse suggested that I should see a doctor.
Once I got home, I felt increasingly uncomfortable.
My testicles are not swollen, but I have persistent pain.
Both my left testicle and lower abdomen hurt, but it's not severe.
I later pinched the skin near my left testicle and found a soft lump, which causes pain in both the left testicle and lower abdomen.
Could you please tell me what these symptoms might indicate? Should I seek medical attention promptly?

Pain in the left testicle and lower abdomen can be concerning, especially for a 14-year-old. There are several potential causes for these symptoms, and it's important to approach this situation carefully.
Firstly, the pain in the left testicle could be related to a few different conditions. One common cause is epididymitis, which is inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicle. This condition can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections, but can also occur due to non-infectious reasons. Given your history of urethritis, it’s possible that a similar infection could be affecting the epididymis.
Another potential cause is testicular torsion, a serious condition where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. This condition typically presents with sudden, severe pain and requires immediate medical attention to prevent permanent damage to the testicle. However, you mentioned that there is no swelling, which might make torsion less likely, but it cannot be ruled out without a proper examination.
Additionally, the presence of a "soft" area near the left testicle could indicate a hernia or a varicocele. A hernia occurs when an internal part of the body pushes through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall, while a varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum. Both conditions can cause discomfort and pain in the testicular area.
The pain in your lower abdomen could be related to the same issues affecting the testicle, or it could be a separate gastrointestinal issue, especially since you mentioned feeling the need to have a bowel movement. Sometimes, gastrointestinal problems such as constipation or gas can cause referred pain to the lower abdomen and testicular area.
Given your symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare professional will likely perform a physical examination, which may include checking for tenderness, swelling, or any abnormalities in the testicular area. They may also order an ultrasound to assess the blood flow to the testicle and check for any abnormalities.
In summary, while there are several potential causes for your symptoms, including epididymitis, testicular torsion, hernia, or gastrointestinal issues, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to preventing complications and ensuring your health and well-being. Do not delay in seeking medical care, especially since testicular issues can sometimes lead to serious consequences if not addressed promptly.
