What should I do?

I often feel unwell and have been diagnosed with acute tonsillitis twice in the past two weeks.
Prior to this, I was diagnosed with acute respiratory infection, sinusitis, bronchitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and so on.
In previous inquiries, some suggested that I might be experiencing recurrent infections and recommended seeing a family physician or internist to check for any chronic conditions.
However, I do have allergic rhinitis, and currently, I am troubled by frequent feelings of discomfort.
I would like to know how to address this issue.
Some have mentioned that there might be minor issues with my bodily organs and advised me to drink more water and exercise.
However, I already drink a lot of water daily, so I'm unsure what to do next.
I have undergone a free health check-up as an adult, and nothing abnormal was found.
Please provide your advice.

Hello, based on your description, it is indeed most likely that you have an allergic constitution.
Many people in Taiwan have this type of constitution, and with the recent severe air pollution, many individuals are experiencing similar symptoms to yours.
I recommend that you engage in regular exercise, as it can significantly help improve sensitivity.
Additionally, it is advisable to avoid staying up late and to maintain a regular schedule, which can also be beneficial.
When going out, try to wear a mask at all times.
If none of the above measures are effective, you may need to consider using antihistamines.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Managing recurring health issues, especially chronic conditions, can be quite challenging and often requires a multifaceted approach. Based on your description, it seems you have been experiencing a series of health problems, including recurrent acute tonsillitis, respiratory infections, sinusitis, bronchitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Additionally, you mentioned having allergic rhinitis, which can complicate your overall health picture.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that recurrent infections and chronic conditions can sometimes be interconnected. For instance, allergic rhinitis can lead to inflammation in the nasal passages, making you more susceptible to sinus infections. Similarly, chronic inflammation in the throat can predispose you to recurrent tonsillitis. Therefore, addressing your allergies may help reduce the frequency of these infections.

Here are some strategies to consider for managing your recurring health issues:
1. Consult a Specialist: Given the complexity of your symptoms, it may be beneficial to consult an allergist or an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist. They can perform specific tests to determine the severity of your allergies and whether they are contributing to your recurrent infections. An ENT specialist can also evaluate your tonsils and sinuses to see if there are any anatomical issues that might be causing your problems.

2. Allergy Management: If you have allergic rhinitis, managing your allergies effectively can significantly reduce your symptoms. This may include avoiding known allergens, using antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, or other allergy medications as prescribed. Immunotherapy (allergy shots) may also be an option if your allergies are severe and persistent.

3. Hydration and Nutrition: While you mentioned that you drink plenty of water, maintaining proper hydration is crucial for overall health, especially for mucosal health in the respiratory tract. Additionally, a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can support your immune system. Certain foods, such as those high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, may help reduce inflammation.

4. Regular Exercise: Regular physical activity can enhance your immune function and overall well-being. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week, combined with strength training exercises. Exercise can also help alleviate stress, which is known to impact immune function.

5. Stress Management: Chronic stress can weaken the immune system and exacerbate symptoms of chronic conditions. Consider incorporating stress-reducing practices into your routine, such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, or deep-breathing exercises.

6. Follow-Up with Healthcare Providers: Since you have undergone health screenings that did not reveal any significant abnormalities, it’s essential to maintain regular follow-ups with your healthcare providers. They can monitor your symptoms, adjust treatments as necessary, and ensure that any new symptoms are evaluated promptly.

7. Lifestyle Modifications: In addition to the above strategies, consider making lifestyle changes that promote better health. This includes getting adequate sleep, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and practicing good hygiene to prevent infections.

8. Symptom Tracking: Keeping a symptom diary can help you and your healthcare providers identify patterns or triggers related to your health issues. Note when symptoms occur, their severity, and any potential triggers, such as specific foods, environmental factors, or stressors.

In summary, managing recurring health issues requires a comprehensive approach that includes consulting specialists, managing allergies, maintaining hydration and nutrition, exercising regularly, managing stress, and following up with healthcare providers. By taking proactive steps and working closely with your healthcare team, you can improve your overall health and reduce the frequency of your symptoms. Remember, it’s essential to communicate openly with your healthcare providers about your concerns and any changes in your health.
