Incomplete bladder emptying?

Hello, Doctor.

1.
Recently, when I urinate, I find that after relaxing and finishing, I still need to exert some effort to expel about 10cc of urine.
Should I try to completely empty my bladder, or is it sufficient to relax and let it finish on its own?
2.
This situation has led me to reflect on my habits.
When I masturbate, I tend to be lazy and stop before ejaculation.
I still manage to ejaculate about once or twice a week.
Doctor, could this be related to my urination issues, or could it lead to other health concerns?
3.
Additionally, I would like to ask if experiencing a throbbing or sharp pain when achieving an erection after ejaculation is normal, or should I seek medical attention?

It is recommended to simply relax normally.

Understanding incomplete urination can be quite complex, as it involves various physiological and psychological factors. Let's break down your questions one by one.

1. Incomplete Urination and the Need to "Squeeze" Out Remaining Urine: When you experience the sensation of needing to exert effort to urinate a small amount of urine after initially feeling that you have emptied your bladder, it may indicate a few things. This could be a sign of bladder dysfunction, where the bladder does not fully contract to expel all urine. In some cases, this can be due to weak bladder muscles, urinary tract infections, or even prostate issues in men. While it is generally advisable to relax and allow your body to naturally expel urine, if you consistently feel the need to squeeze out additional urine, it may be beneficial to consult a urologist. They can perform tests to assess your bladder function and determine if there are underlying issues that need to be addressed.

2. Connection Between Sexual Activity and Urination: Your concern about whether your masturbation habits could be related to your urination issues is valid. While there is no direct correlation between the two, certain behaviors during sexual activity can affect urinary function. For instance, if you frequently hold back ejaculation, it may lead to increased tension in the pelvic floor muscles, which can also impact urination. However, occasional changes in sexual habits are generally not a cause for concern unless they lead to discomfort or pain. If you notice persistent issues or changes in your urinary patterns, it would be wise to discuss these with a healthcare provider.

3. Pain or Discomfort After Ejaculation: Experiencing pain or a sharp sensation after ejaculation can be concerning. While some men may experience temporary discomfort due to muscle tension or sensitivity, persistent or severe pain should not be ignored. This could indicate a variety of conditions, such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), pelvic floor dysfunction, or even an infection. If the pain is recurrent or severe, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A urologist can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly imaging studies, to determine the cause of your discomfort.

In summary, while some degree of incomplete urination can be common, especially as men age or due to lifestyle factors, it is important to listen to your body. If you are experiencing discomfort, changes in urination patterns, or any other concerning symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional is the best course of action. They can provide tailored advice and treatment options based on your specific situation. Regular check-ups and open communication with your doctor can help ensure that any potential issues are addressed early, promoting better urinary and overall health.
