Pregnancy and Menstrual Issues
Hello Doctor, I am the questioner from #167164.
My girlfriend's menstrual cycle start dates for the past three months are as follows: January 17, February 13 or 14, and March 16.
She started her period on March 16 and it ended on March 25.
On March 26, we had unprotected intercourse, but there was no vigorous movement and it wasn't deep, lasting about ten minutes, and there was no ejaculation.
Afterward, I took care of myself and ejaculated about five minutes later.
What is the likelihood of pregnancy in this situation? However, my girlfriend's period was expected to start on April 15, but it hasn't come yet.
She mentioned feeling lower abdominal pain (likely in the uterine area) starting from April 1, which then became less frequent.
She also said that her discharge typically decreases one to two weeks before her period, but it only started to decrease on April 14.
Is this a delayed period or is there a possibility of pregnancy? Thank you.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy should be low.
Please wait another week, and if your period still hasn't arrived, I recommend seeing a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to concerns about pregnancy, particularly regarding menstrual irregularities and the potential for pregnancy, it's essential to understand the biological and physiological factors at play. In your case, your girlfriend's menstrual cycle has shown some irregularities, and there are several aspects to consider.
Firstly, menstrual cycles can vary significantly from month to month due to various factors, including stress, hormonal changes, diet, and overall health. A typical menstrual cycle ranges from 21 to 35 days, with an average of about 28 days. However, it's not uncommon for women to experience variations in their cycle length. In your girlfriend's case, her cycles have been approximately 27 days apart, but the irregularity in the start dates may suggest that her body is experiencing some fluctuations.
Regarding the sexual encounter on March 26, where there was no ejaculation, the risk of pregnancy is relatively low but not entirely absent. Pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, and if any sperm were present, there is a possibility of pregnancy. However, the likelihood decreases significantly without ejaculation. Given that your girlfriend's expected period was around April 15 and she experienced abdominal pain on April 1, it could be indicative of ovulation or premenstrual symptoms.
The absence of her period by April 15 raises the question of whether she could be pregnant. If her cycle is typically regular, a missed period is one of the first signs of pregnancy. However, stress, illness, or other factors can also lead to a delayed period. The fact that she noted changes in her discharge a few days before the expected period could also be related to hormonal fluctuations associated with her menstrual cycle or early pregnancy symptoms.
To determine whether she is pregnant, the most reliable method is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it is advisable to wait until at least the first day of the missed period to take the test. If the test is positive, it would confirm pregnancy, and if negative but the period does not arrive, a follow-up test or a visit to a healthcare provider would be recommended.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given the circumstances, the irregularity of her menstrual cycle and the timing of your sexual encounter suggest that it is not a certainty. The best course of action is to conduct a pregnancy test and consult with a healthcare professional for further evaluation and guidance. They can provide more personalized advice based on her medical history and any symptoms she may be experiencing.
