Red spots in the mouth after oral sex?
Hello doctor, after performing oral sex on my boyfriend today, I noticed red spots resembling broken capillaries in my throat, the floor of my mouth, and the inner side of my lower lip (most concentrated in the throat).
There are no red spots on either side of my mouth.
I checked with a flashlight and saw no redness or swelling in my uvula or throat, and there is no pain.
Could this be due to sucking too hard, causing microvascular rupture (similar to strawberry marks), or could it be an abrasion? The red spots in my throat feel uncomfortable as if I sucked too hard, but it doesn't feel like the pain associated with a cold.
Thank you!

Red spots in the mouth after engaging in oral sex can be concerning, and it's important to understand the potential causes and implications. Based on the symptoms you've described—red spots resembling broken capillaries, particularly concentrated in the throat area, and the absence of pain or swelling—there are several possibilities to consider.
Firstly, the appearance of red spots could indeed be due to trauma from vigorous oral activity. When performing oral sex, especially if suction is applied forcefully, it can lead to microtrauma in the delicate tissues of the mouth and throat. This trauma can manifest as small red spots, similar to petechiae, which are tiny, pinpoint-sized red or purple spots caused by bleeding under the skin. This is particularly likely if you experienced any discomfort during the act, as you mentioned feeling a sense of discomfort in the throat area.
Another possibility is that the red spots could be a result of irritation or friction, especially if there was prolonged contact or if the tissues were not adequately lubricated. The oral cavity is sensitive, and any excessive force or friction can lead to abrasions or minor injuries, resulting in localized redness or spots.
In addition to mechanical trauma, there is also the potential for infections, although your lack of pain, swelling, or other systemic symptoms makes this less likely. However, oral sex can transmit infections, including viral infections like herpes or bacterial infections such as gonorrhea, especially if there are any cuts or abrasions in the mouth. If you notice any additional symptoms, such as pain, swelling, or unusual discharge, it would be prudent to seek medical attention.
If the red spots persist or if you develop new symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional, preferably an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist. They can perform a thorough examination to rule out any underlying conditions and provide appropriate treatment if necessary.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations to promote healing and comfort:
1. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist and help with healing.
2. Avoid Irritants: Steer clear of spicy, acidic, or abrasive foods that could further irritate the affected areas.
3. Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing gently and using a mild mouthwash to reduce the risk of infection.
4. Rest: Allow your body to recover by getting adequate rest and managing stress, as stress can exacerbate oral health issues.
In summary, while the red spots in your mouth after oral sex could be due to trauma from suction or friction, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If there are any changes or if you have concerns about potential infections, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Your health and well-being should always be a priority, and a healthcare professional can provide the most accurate diagnosis and treatment options.
