Abnormal premenstrual discharge
I experience irregular brownish-black discharge 2-5 days before my period, sometimes it appears light red, but each time I wipe with tissue, there is no blood or only a little light brown.
This situation has been ongoing for several months.
Could it be due to the last menstrual cycle not being completely cleared?

Hello, it is possible that there is a deficiency in progesterone.
If there is still no improvement, it is recommended to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

Brown discharge before menstruation is a common occurrence for many women and can be attributed to several factors. The brown color typically indicates older blood that has taken longer to exit the body, which is why it appears darker. This discharge can occur anywhere from a few days to a week before your period starts and is often considered normal, especially if it is not accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
One of the primary reasons for brown discharge before menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining. As the body prepares for menstruation, the endometrial lining thickens, and if the lining is not fully expelled during the previous cycle, remnants may be discharged as brown spotting. This can happen if your menstrual cycle is irregular or if you have experienced hormonal fluctuations.
Hormonal imbalances can also play a significant role in the occurrence of brown discharge. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other endocrine issues can lead to irregular cycles and spotting. Additionally, stress, significant weight changes, or changes in birth control methods can affect hormone levels and lead to brown discharge.
Another potential cause of brown discharge is the presence of fibroids or polyps in the uterus. These benign growths can cause irregular bleeding or spotting, which may appear as brown discharge. Infections, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs), can also lead to abnormal discharge, although these conditions are typically accompanied by other symptoms, such as pain or unusual odor.
If you have been experiencing this brown discharge consistently for several months, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a pelvic exam, ultrasound, or hormonal testing, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. It is essential to rule out any serious conditions, especially if you notice changes in your menstrual cycle, experience pain, or have any other unusual symptoms.
In summary, while brown discharge before menstruation can be a normal part of the menstrual cycle, it is essential to pay attention to your body and seek medical advice if you have concerns. Keeping a menstrual diary can also help you track your cycles and any associated symptoms, which can be beneficial information for your healthcare provider. Regular gynecological check-ups are crucial for maintaining reproductive health and addressing any potential issues early on.
