Bleeding after taking Yuezhi for 20 days?
Hello doctor, I started taking Yaz on the first day of my last menstrual period and had sexual intercourse about 10 days later, with 2 to 4 instances of ejaculation inside.
Recently, I have noticed slight bleeding from my genital area, along with symptoms such as increased drowsiness, frequent hunger, and bloating.
Should I see a doctor, or are these symptoms considered normal? Thank you, doctor.

Hello Miss Jun: Engaging in sexual intercourse at any time during the use of birth control pills provides a high level of contraceptive effectiveness, so there is no need to worry too much.
As for the symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, drowsiness, and increased appetite during the medication period, or light vaginal bleeding in the last few days, these are common side effects.
Generally, most people experience improvement after taking the second or third pack.
If the symptoms do not improve, then considering a change in medication would be appropriate.

When it comes to experiencing light bleeding after starting a new contraceptive like Yaz, it is important to understand the context of your symptoms and the potential implications. Yaz is a combination oral contraceptive that contains both estrogen and progestin, and it is commonly prescribed for birth control, as well as for managing symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and acne.
Light bleeding, often referred to as "breakthrough bleeding," can occur during the first few months of starting a new birth control pill. This is typically due to the body adjusting to the hormonal changes introduced by the contraceptive. Breakthrough bleeding is generally not a cause for concern, especially if it is light and not accompanied by severe pain or other alarming symptoms. However, it is essential to monitor the situation closely.
In your case, you mentioned experiencing light bleeding along with symptoms such as increased fatigue, hunger, and bloating. These symptoms can be common side effects of hormonal contraceptives, particularly as your body adjusts to the new hormone levels. However, they can also indicate other issues, such as pregnancy or an underlying health condition. Given that you have had unprotected intercourse, it is prudent to consider the possibility of pregnancy, even if you are on birth control.
Here are some recommendations:
1. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep track of the bleeding and any other symptoms you experience. If the bleeding becomes heavier, lasts longer than a few days, or is accompanied by severe pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention.
2. Consider a Pregnancy Test: If you have concerns about the possibility of being pregnant, taking a home pregnancy test can provide clarity. These tests are generally accurate if taken after a missed period.
3. Consult Your Doctor: If the light bleeding persists beyond a few cycles, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms (such as severe abdominal pain, dizziness, or heavy bleeding), it is essential to consult your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your situation, rule out any potential complications, and determine whether your current contraceptive method is suitable for you.
4. Discuss Side Effects: If you find that the side effects of Yaz are bothersome, or if the breakthrough bleeding continues, discuss this with your doctor. There are various contraceptive options available, and your healthcare provider can help you find one that may be better suited to your needs.
5. Lifestyle Considerations: Ensure you maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, which can help mitigate some side effects of hormonal contraceptives.
In summary, while light bleeding after starting Yaz can be a normal adjustment, it is crucial to remain vigilant about your symptoms. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms change, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and care. Your health and well-being should always be your top priority.
