Bleeding after taking Yuezhi for 20 days?

Hello doctor, I started taking Yaz on the first day of my last menstrual period and had sexual intercourse about 10 days later, with 2 to 4 instances of ejaculation inside.
Recently, I have noticed slight bleeding from my genital area, along with symptoms such as increased drowsiness, frequent hunger, and bloating.
Should I see a doctor, or are these symptoms considered normal? Thank you, doctor.

Jun, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2021/05/31

Hello, Miss Jun: The symptoms you mentioned, such as slight bleeding, drowsiness, increased hunger, and bloating, are common side effects associated with the use of contraceptive pills.
Generally, these symptoms tend to improve significantly after taking two to three packs.
If you continue to experience these issues after two to three packs, you might consider switching to a different contraceptive pill.
I recommend that you continue to monitor your symptoms for now and do not feel the need to rush to see a doctor.

When it comes to experiencing light bleeding after starting a new contraceptive method like Yaz, it's important to understand the potential side effects and when to seek medical attention. Yaz is a combination oral contraceptive that contains ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone, and it can cause various side effects, especially during the initial months of use as your body adjusts to the hormones.

Light bleeding or spotting is a common side effect during the first few months of taking Yaz. This is often referred to as "breakthrough bleeding." It can occur due to hormonal fluctuations as your body adapts to the new hormone levels. Other common side effects of Yaz include mood changes, headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, and changes in appetite, which may explain your feelings of sleepiness, increased hunger, and bloating.

However, while light spotting can be normal, there are certain situations where you should consider consulting a healthcare provider:
1. Duration and Amount of Bleeding: If the bleeding persists for more than a few days or becomes heavier than a typical menstrual period, it is advisable to see a doctor.
2. Associated Symptoms: If you experience severe abdominal pain, significant changes in your menstrual cycle, or any other unusual symptoms (such as severe headaches, vision changes, or leg swelling), you should seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of more serious conditions, such as a blood clot or other complications.

3. Pregnancy Concerns: If you have had unprotected intercourse and are experiencing any unusual bleeding, it might be wise to take a pregnancy test. While Yaz is effective when taken correctly, no contraceptive method is 100% effective. If you suspect you might be pregnant, consult your doctor for further evaluation.

4. Mental Health: If you notice significant mood changes or depression, it’s important to discuss these with your healthcare provider. Hormonal contraceptives can affect mood, and your doctor may need to adjust your prescription.

5. Follow-Up: If you are concerned about the bleeding or any other symptoms, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and consult your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current symptoms.

In summary, while light bleeding after starting Yaz can be a normal occurrence, it’s essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the bleeding continues, worsens, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They can help determine whether your symptoms are a normal side effect of the medication or if further investigation is needed. Always prioritize your health and well-being, and don’t hesitate to seek medical advice when in doubt.
