Upper abdomen near the stomach and navel?
I would like to ask the doctor about some symptoms I've been experiencing.
For the past few days, I've felt pain when pressing around my navel or above it (sometimes there's a slight tingling sensation), but the pain doesn't occur every time I press.
After pressing, I feel a bit uncomfortable.
I've also been experiencing bloating in my stomach.
I've taken the gastric medication prescribed by my doctor, which provides some relief, but I still feel the urge to press on the area above or near my navel.
Regarding my bowel movements, there doesn't seem to be anything significantly abnormal, except for some small black dots in the stool, which I found online might be food residue or something similar.
I would like to know how to alleviate these symptoms.
Sometimes, my stomach makes gurgling noises, and last night I felt bloated and had the urge to burp but couldn't.
What can I do to improve the discomfort when pressing on my navel? Are these symptoms serious?

Hello: It may be necessary to examine your diet to see if it includes caffeinated beverages, fried foods, spicy foods, acidic foods, or hard-to-digest foods.
If so, consider reducing or eliminating them.
If you notice any localized color changes in your stool, you can monitor it; however, if the stool is completely black or bright red/dark red, you should seek emergency medical attention.

More Info
Understanding abdominal pain, especially around the belly button area, can be quite complex due to the variety of potential causes. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing intermittent pain and discomfort near your belly button, along with feelings of bloating and occasional gastrointestinal noises. Let's break down some possible causes and relief strategies.
Possible Causes of Pain Near the Belly Button
1. Gastrointestinal Issues: The pain you feel could be related to gastrointestinal disturbances. Conditions such as gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or even mild food intolerances can lead to discomfort in the abdominal area. The sensation of bloating and the presence of gas can also contribute to this discomfort.
2. Muscle Strain: If you have been engaging in physical activities or even sudden movements, it is possible that you have strained the abdominal muscles. This can cause localized pain, especially when pressure is applied.
3. Appendicitis: While appendicitis typically presents with more severe and constant pain, it can sometimes start as a vague discomfort around the belly button before localizing to the right lower abdomen. If the pain worsens or is accompanied by fever, nausea, or vomiting, seek immediate medical attention.
4. Hernia: Given your history of inguinal hernia, it’s worth considering the possibility of a recurrence or a new hernia. Hernias can cause localized pain, especially when pressure is applied to the area.
5. Diverticulitis: This condition occurs when small pouches in the colon become inflamed or infected. It can cause pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits.
6. Stress and Anxiety: Psychological factors can also manifest as physical symptoms. Anxiety can lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, discomfort, and changes in bowel habits.
Relief Strategies
1. Dietary Adjustments: Pay attention to your diet. Avoid foods that are known to cause bloating, such as beans, carbonated drinks, and certain dairy products. Incorporating more fiber gradually can help with bowel regularity.
2. Hydration: Ensure you are drinking enough water throughout the day. Proper hydration can aid digestion and help alleviate bloating.
3. Over-the-Counter Medications: Since you mentioned that you have been prescribed medication for your stomach, continue to follow your doctor's advice. Over-the-counter antacids or simethicone can help relieve bloating and gas.
4. Gentle Exercise: Engaging in light physical activity, such as walking, can help stimulate digestion and relieve bloating.
5. Heat Therapy: Applying a warm compress or heating pad to your abdomen can help relax the muscles and alleviate pain.
6. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: If anxiety is a contributing factor, practices such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help reduce stress and its physical manifestations.
When to Seek Medical Attention
While many causes of abdominal pain are benign, you should seek medical attention if:
- The pain becomes severe or persistent.
- You experience additional symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or changes in bowel habits (e.g., diarrhea or constipation).
- There is any noticeable swelling or bulging in the abdominal area.
- You have a history of gastrointestinal issues or surgeries that may complicate your symptoms.
In conclusion, while your symptoms may not seem severe at the moment, it is essential to monitor them closely. If they persist or worsen, consulting with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation is advisable. Your health is paramount, and understanding the underlying cause of your symptoms is crucial for effective management and relief.
