Prostate issues
Hello Doctor, starting from the evening of June 29, I suddenly felt a strong urge to urinate right after finishing urination (the sensation seems to originate from the glans).
However, when I go to the bathroom, there isn't much urine.
On the morning of June 30, I noticed some wet, sticky discharge (similar to prostatic fluid), and throughout June 30, I experienced this issue, which also affected my sleep at night.
On July 1, the situation improved, but after masturbating that evening, I noticed that my semen had a slightly yellowish tint (I had taken a day off from masturbation), and I felt the urge to urinate again right after using the bathroom.
I would like to ask the doctor if this could be urethritis or prostatitis, or if it might just be due to staying up late causing autonomic nervous system imbalance, etc.
Thank you, Doctor.

Hello: 1) If there is no unsafe sexual behavior, the chances are low.
If there has been unsafe sexual behavior, seek medical attention.
2) You can start by drinking more water, minimizing sugary drinks, and maintaining a light diet.
Consider gentle exercise and monitor for improvement.
If you experience painful urination, seek medical attention.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding prostate issues, particularly in young men, can be complex due to the interplay of various factors, including physical health, psychological well-being, and lifestyle choices. Your symptoms, which include frequent urination, a sensation of urgency, and changes in the appearance of your semen, could indeed suggest a few potential conditions, including prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) or urethritis (inflammation of the urethra).
Prostatitis is a common condition that can affect men of all ages, but it is particularly prevalent in younger men. It can be caused by bacterial infections or can be non-bacterial in nature, often linked to pelvic floor dysfunction or stress. Symptoms of prostatitis can include:
1. Frequent Urination: This is often characterized by an urgent need to urinate, which can be particularly bothersome at night (nocturia).
2. Pain or Discomfort: You may experience pain in the pelvic area, including the perineum (the area between the scrotum and anus), lower back, or even the genital region.
3. Changes in Urine Flow: This can manifest as difficulty starting urination, a weak urine stream, or a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
4. Changes in Semen: The appearance of semen can change, sometimes becoming cloudy or yellowish, which may indicate an underlying issue.
Urethritis, on the other hand, is inflammation of the urethra, often caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Symptoms can overlap with those of prostatitis, including a burning sensation during urination and discharge from the penis.
Your mention of a "wet, sticky" substance resembling prostatic fluid could be a normal secretion, but if it is accompanied by discomfort or changes in urination, it warrants further investigation. The fact that you experienced these symptoms after a period of sleep deprivation could suggest that stress or fatigue may be exacerbating your condition. Stress can impact the autonomic nervous system, which regulates bodily functions, including urination.
Here are some recommendations to consider:
1. Hydration: Ensure you are drinking enough water throughout the day. Dehydration can concentrate urine and irritate the bladder.
2. Diet: Avoid irritants such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, which can exacerbate urinary symptoms.
3. Stress Management: Engage in relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or light exercise to help manage stress levels.
4. Sleep Hygiene: Aim for a regular sleep schedule to improve your overall health and reduce stress on your body.
5. Medical Evaluation: Given the persistence of your symptoms, it would be prudent to consult a urologist. They may recommend tests such as a urinalysis, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, or imaging studies to assess your prostate health and rule out any serious conditions.
In conclusion, while your symptoms could be indicative of prostatitis or urethritis, they could also be influenced by lifestyle factors such as stress and sleep patterns. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent complications and improve your quality of life.
