Penile swelling?

On February 28th, after taking a shower and masturbating, my penis suddenly swelled up (edema).
I went to the emergency room, and the doctor only prescribed medication (it later returned to normal).
However, after two weeks, I masturbated again, and it swelled up again but eventually returned to normal.
This has been happening repeatedly, and I would like to know what I should do.

Hello: If there is inflammation, it is important to pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene.
If the skin tightness is causing poor circulation, it may lead to swelling, and you should seek medical attention to determine the appropriate follow-up treatment.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

Persistent penile swelling, especially following sexual activity or masturbation, can be concerning and may have several underlying causes. It’s important to understand that while occasional swelling can be normal due to increased blood flow during arousal, persistent or recurrent swelling may indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

Possible Causes of Persistent Penile Swelling
1. Trauma or Injury: Engaging in vigorous sexual activity or masturbation can sometimes lead to minor trauma or injury to the penile tissues, resulting in swelling. This is often accompanied by bruising or tenderness.

2. Allergic Reaction: If you are using any lubricants, soaps, or other products during sexual activity, an allergic reaction could cause localized swelling. Ingredients in these products can irritate the skin or mucous membranes.

3. Infection: Conditions such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other infections can lead to swelling. Symptoms may include redness, warmth, pain, or discharge. If you suspect an infection, it is crucial to seek medical attention.

4. Peyronie’s Disease: This condition involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can cause curvature, pain, and swelling. It typically requires medical evaluation and management.

5. Lymphatic Issues: Swelling can also occur due to lymphatic obstruction or issues with fluid drainage from the penis. This can lead to a condition known as lymphedema.

6. Priapism: This is a medical emergency characterized by a prolonged and often painful erection that lasts for more than four hours. It can lead to swelling and requires immediate medical intervention.

Recommended Solutions
1. Medical Evaluation: Since you have experienced recurrent swelling, it is advisable to consult a urologist for a thorough evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and order tests to determine the underlying cause.

2. Avoiding Irritants: If you suspect that certain products may be causing an allergic reaction, consider eliminating them and observing if the swelling persists.

3. Gentle Technique: If vigorous activity is leading to trauma, consider using a gentler technique during masturbation or sexual activity to minimize the risk of injury.

4. Hydration and Health: Ensure you are well-hydrated and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes, overall health can impact how your body responds to physical activity.

5. Follow-Up Care: If you notice any additional symptoms such as pain, discharge, or changes in urination, seek medical attention promptly. Persistent swelling should not be ignored, especially if it is accompanied by other concerning symptoms.

6. Avoiding Sexual Activity: If you notice swelling after sexual activity, it may be wise to take a break from such activities until you have consulted with a healthcare provider.

Conclusion
Persistent penile swelling can have various causes, and while it may resolve on its own, it is essential to seek medical advice to rule out any serious conditions. A urologist can provide a comprehensive evaluation and recommend appropriate treatment based on the underlying cause. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these symptoms early can prevent potential complications.
