Clear fluid discharge after ejaculation?
Hello doctor, for the past three months, after ejaculation during sexual intercourse or masturbation, I have been experiencing intermittent discharge of a somewhat clear and thin fluid from my penis.
The smell is somewhat similar to semen, and it has a bit of stickiness.
Additionally, my penis has softened, and this occurs approximately one minute after ejaculation.
The total amount of fluid discharged is less than that of semen but exceeds the amount of prostatic fluid typically released during arousal.
This has not happened before, but for nearly six months, I have experienced the same discharge after almost every instance of masturbation and sexual intercourse.

It is likely the secretion from the bulbourethral glands, which is not concerning.
Continue to monitor.

Post-ejaculation clear fluid can be a concerning issue for many individuals, especially when it presents as a new symptom. Understanding the causes and implications of this phenomenon is essential for addressing any potential health concerns.
Firstly, it is important to differentiate between various types of fluids that may be expelled after ejaculation. The clear, somewhat sticky fluid you describe could be a combination of several components, including residual seminal fluid, pre-ejaculatory fluid (also known as pre-cum), and possibly prostate fluid. The prostate gland produces a fluid that is part of the seminal fluid, and it can sometimes be expelled after ejaculation, especially if there is residual pressure in the urethra.
The fact that this fluid is clear and has a consistency similar to seminal fluid, yet is less in volume, suggests that it may not be a cause for alarm. However, the persistence of this symptom over the past three months, especially if it is accompanied by any discomfort, changes in urination, or other unusual symptoms, warrants further investigation.
Several potential causes for post-ejaculation clear fluid include:
1. Prostate Health: Conditions such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) can lead to changes in the fluid expelled after ejaculation. If the prostate is inflamed, it may produce more fluid or alter the composition of the fluid.
2. Ejaculatory Duct Obstruction: Blockages in the ejaculatory duct can lead to abnormal fluid expulsion. This can sometimes cause a buildup of fluid that is released after ejaculation.
3. Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormone levels can affect the production and composition of seminal fluid. This can be influenced by stress, diet, or underlying health conditions.
4. Infection: Infections of the reproductive system, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), can lead to changes in fluid production and may present with additional symptoms such as pain, burning during urination, or unusual discharge.
5. Normal Variation: It is also possible that this is simply a normal variation in your body’s response post-ejaculation. Some individuals may experience changes in fluid consistency and volume due to various factors, including hydration levels, frequency of ejaculation, and overall health.
Given that this is a new symptom for you, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, preferably a urologist, who can perform a thorough evaluation. This may include a physical examination, a review of your medical history, and possibly tests such as a urinalysis or imaging studies to rule out any underlying conditions.
In summary, while post-ejaculation clear fluid can be benign, especially if it is not accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice to ensure that there are no underlying health issues. Early intervention can help address any potential problems and provide peace of mind.
