Regarding missed menstruation?

I'm sorry to bother you, doctor.
My last menstrual period was on May 9, and it still hasn't arrived.
I had been taking oral contraceptive pills regularly for about six months, but I stopped in May.
Before taking the pills, I sometimes experienced delays of up to a month, but nothing this long.
I have been using protection during intercourse, either with the pills or condoms.
The last time I used only condoms without taking the pills was on June 19.
Since early June, I've been experiencing lower abdominal discomfort.
I haven't had any other symptoms like loss of appetite, excessive sleepiness, or elevated basal body temperature.
However, I took a pregnancy test yesterday (July 3) and today (July 4), and both showed only one line.
I'm wondering what these symptoms might indicate and whether there is a possibility of pregnancy.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy should be low.
If your period does not arrive in another week, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

Delayed menstruation can be a source of concern for many women, and it can arise from a variety of causes. In your case, since your last menstrual period was on May 9 and you have not had a period since, it is understandable that you are seeking clarity on the situation.
Firstly, it is important to consider the role of hormonal contraceptives. You mentioned that you had been taking emergency contraceptive pills for about six months before stopping in May. Hormonal contraceptives can significantly alter your menstrual cycle, and it may take some time for your body to readjust after discontinuation. Irregularities in your cycle, including delayed menstruation, are common after stopping hormonal birth control, especially if you had a history of irregular cycles prior to starting the medication.

You also noted that you have been using condoms for protection since stopping the pills, which is a responsible approach to prevent unintended pregnancy. The fact that you have taken pregnancy tests on July 3 and July 4, both showing a single line, suggests that you are not pregnant, as a positive result would typically show two lines. However, it is important to ensure that the tests were taken correctly and at the appropriate time. If you tested too early, it might not have detected a pregnancy even if one were present.

The symptoms you described, such as lower abdominal discomfort, could be related to various factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, or even conditions like ovarian cysts or pelvic inflammatory disease. Stress can also play a significant role in menstrual irregularities, as it can affect the hypothalamus, which regulates the menstrual cycle.

Given that you have experienced delayed menstruation and have had some discomfort, it would be prudent to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, blood tests to check hormone levels, and possibly an ultrasound to rule out any underlying conditions.
In summary, while the absence of menstruation can be concerning, it is often related to hormonal changes, especially after stopping birth control. The negative pregnancy tests are reassuring, but if your period does not arrive soon or if your symptoms worsen, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Your healthcare provider can help determine the underlying cause of your delayed menstruation and recommend appropriate treatment or management strategies.
