Yellow semen color?
Hello Doctor, I inquired about my frequent urination issue last week, and later I visited the clinic for an examination.
The doctor diagnosed me with urethritis and prescribed a three-day course of medication (one of the side effects is that my urine may turn dark yellow).
I would like to ask about my semen, which has been light yellow to slightly darker since last Sunday when I ate pineapple.
I thought it might be due to a lower frequency of masturbation last week.
However, this Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, I refrained from masturbation during the treatment, and yesterday I noticed it was still somewhat yellow.
Today, after two instances, it remains yellow.
I want to know if this could indicate inflammation of the prostate or other organs (I feel a slight discomfort when cleaning myself), or if it is solely due to the medication's side effects combined with three days without ejaculation.
By the way, I had an ultrasound at the clinic, and it seemed that my bladder and kidneys were fine.
Currently, I am drinking 3000cc of water a day.
Thank you, Doctor!

Understanding the causes and concerns surrounding yellow semen is an important aspect of urology, particularly when it comes to symptoms that may indicate underlying health issues. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing several interconnected symptoms, including changes in semen color, urinary frequency, and discomfort in the genital area.
Firstly, the color of semen can vary due to a number of factors, including hydration levels, diet, and potential infections. In your case, you mentioned that your semen has been a pale yellow to a deeper yellow since starting medication for urethritis. This change could indeed be influenced by the medication you are taking, as certain antibiotics and other medications can alter the color of bodily fluids, including urine and semen. The fact that you have been drinking a significant amount of water (3000cc daily) should help dilute any concentrated substances in your semen, but it may not completely eliminate the yellow coloration if the medication is affecting it.
Additionally, you mentioned that you have not engaged in masturbation during your treatment period. A decrease in ejaculation frequency can also lead to changes in semen color, as older sperm and seminal fluid can accumulate in the reproductive tract, potentially leading to a more concentrated appearance.
The discomfort you feel when cleaning yourself could suggest some irritation or inflammation in the genital area, which might be related to your urethritis or possibly an issue with the prostate. Prostatitis, or inflammation of the prostate gland, can cause symptoms such as pelvic pain, urinary difficulties, and changes in semen. If you are experiencing discomfort in the perineal area (the space between the anus and the scrotum), it would be prudent to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as it could indicate an underlying issue that may require further investigation.
In terms of the yellow coloration of your semen, it is essential to consider other potential causes, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhea or chlamydia, which can also lead to changes in semen color and consistency. Although you mentioned that you have not engaged in sexual activity, it is still important to rule out any infections, especially if you have had any previous unprotected encounters.
Given that you have already undergone an ultrasound of your bladder and kidneys, which showed no issues, it may be beneficial to follow up with your healthcare provider regarding your ongoing symptoms. They may recommend further testing, such as a urinalysis or semen analysis, to assess for any infections or abnormalities.
In conclusion, while the yellow coloration of your semen may be related to medication side effects and changes in ejaculation frequency, it is essential to remain vigilant about any accompanying symptoms. If the discomfort persists or worsens, or if you notice any additional changes in your urinary or reproductive health, seeking further medical evaluation is advisable. Your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these concerns with a qualified urologist will help ensure that any underlying issues are appropriately managed.
