Uterine Menstrual Issues
Hello Doctor: In June 2020, an abdominal ultrasound at the hospital revealed a uterine adenomyoma.
My last menstrual period was from June 3, 2021, to June 10, 2021.
From June 15 to June 26, 2021, I visited a clinic due to a urinary tract infection and abnormal discharge, and I have been continuously taking "Cifulexin capsules," "Hsin-Hui Lico Pain Tablets (acetaminophen)," and "Lupijin coated tablets 100 mg." However, after the abdominal ultrasound, the doctor indicated that my uterus is very healthy and there are no abnormalities.
Should I undergo a re-examination to confirm whether I have a uterine adenomyoma? Additionally, after taking the medication, my urine temperature remains elevated; should I continue treatment?
P.S.
My daily routine is normal, and I drink 3000 c.c.
of water daily and have a habit of exercising.
Furthermore, from July 8 to July 10, I noticed slight blood streaks and brown discharge.
My menstrual period started on July 11, and as of July 13, it is the third day, but there are only some blood streaks and brown discharge left.
I would like to know if this is related to the medication for the urinary tract infection.
Should I go for a gynecological examination now, or should I wait until my menstrual period is completely over? Thank you.
Qi, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2021/07/13

Understanding uterine issues, particularly menstrual irregularities and conditions like adenomyosis, can be quite complex. Based on your description, it seems you have been diagnosed with adenomyosis, which is a condition where the inner lining of the uterus (the endometrium) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus (the myometrium). This can lead to various symptoms, including heavy menstrual bleeding, severe cramping, and irregular periods.
From your timeline, it appears that you have experienced some irregularities in your menstrual cycle, with your last menstrual period occurring from June 3 to June 10, and then another episode from June 15 to June 26. The presence of blood-tinged and brown discharge can sometimes be associated with hormonal fluctuations, especially in conditions like adenomyosis, where the endometrial tissue can respond abnormally to hormonal changes.
Regarding your concern about the ultrasound findings, if your doctor indicated that your uterus appears healthy and there are no abnormalities detected, it may suggest that the adenomyosis is not currently causing significant issues. However, if you continue to experience symptoms or if there is uncertainty about the diagnosis, it may be prudent to seek a follow-up ultrasound or a second opinion. Adenomyosis can sometimes be challenging to diagnose definitively, and imaging techniques like MRI can provide more detailed information if needed.
As for the medications you are taking, it is essential to discuss any side effects or ongoing symptoms with your healthcare provider. The medications you mentioned, such as "賜福力欣膠囊" and "杏輝"利克痛錠, may have side effects that could influence your urinary symptoms. If you are still experiencing elevated urinary temperature or discomfort, it is advisable to consult your doctor to evaluate whether these symptoms are related to your medications or if further investigation is warranted.
In terms of your menstrual irregularities, the use of medications for urinary tract infections (UTIs) can sometimes affect menstrual cycles, but this varies from person to person. The presence of brown discharge and blood-tinged secretions could be a result of hormonal changes, especially if you are experiencing fluctuations in your cycle due to adenomyosis or the medications you are taking.
It is generally recommended to wait until your menstrual cycle has normalized before seeking further evaluation, but if your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you have concerns about your urinary symptoms, it would be wise to consult with a gynecologist sooner. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation and determine if any additional tests or treatments are necessary.
In summary, while adenomyosis can lead to menstrual irregularities, the current ultrasound findings suggest that there may not be significant issues at this time. However, ongoing symptoms warrant further discussion with your healthcare provider. Monitoring your symptoms and maintaining open communication with your doctor will be crucial in managing your condition effectively.
