Post-foreskin surgery?
Hello,
1.
I had a circumcision three days ago due to phimosis, and I am still very sensitive, so I am being very careful not to touch it, only about 6 or 7 times a day.
The doctor who performed the surgery advised me to wear tight-fitting underwear, but I find it very sensitive.
He said this would shorten the adjustment period.
2.
If I avoid sitting on the bed, walking, or sitting on a chair for the next few days, will it affect the healing of the wound?
3.
After urinating today, I noticed a brownish discharge under the glans while cleaning.
Is this normal?
Thank you.

Is this normal? -- Check the wound to see if the discharge is coming from there; if not, it should be fine.
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision care is crucial for ensuring proper healing and managing sensitivity after the procedure. Here are some insights regarding your concerns:
1. Sensitivity and Underwear: It's common to experience heightened sensitivity in the glans (the head of the penis) after circumcision, especially if you had a condition like phimosis prior to the surgery. The sensitivity may persist for several weeks as the area heals and adjusts to being exposed. Your surgeon's recommendation to wear snug-fitting underwear is based on the idea that it can provide support and protection to the healing area. While it may feel uncomfortable initially, this type of underwear can help reduce friction and irritation, potentially leading to a shorter adaptation period. If the sensitivity becomes unbearable, you should communicate this with your doctor, as they may suggest alternative options or adjustments to your care plan.
2. Activity Level and Healing: Regarding your concern about sitting or moving around, light activity is generally encouraged after circumcision to promote blood circulation, which aids in healing. However, you should avoid any strenuous activities or heavy lifting for at least a week or as advised by your surgeon. Sitting on soft surfaces can help minimize discomfort, but you should not avoid sitting altogether unless it causes significant pain. If you experience increased pain or swelling while sitting or moving, it’s essential to consult your healthcare provider.
3. Discharge and Cleaning: The presence of a brownish discharge after urination, especially in the initial days post-surgery, can be concerning. However, it can be normal to see some discharge as the surgical site heals. This discharge may consist of dried blood or other fluids that are part of the healing process. It’s important to maintain proper hygiene by gently cleaning the area with mild soap and water, but avoid any harsh scrubbing. If the discharge has a foul odor, is accompanied by increased redness, swelling, or pain, or if you have a fever, these could be signs of infection, and you should seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, while sensitivity is a normal part of the healing process after circumcision, it’s essential to follow your surgeon's advice regarding activity and care. If you have any concerns about your healing process or experience any unusual symptoms, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further guidance. Proper post-operative care is vital for a smooth recovery and to ensure that any potential complications are addressed early.
