Wisdom tooth extraction?
After having my impacted wisdom tooth extracted, the second molar in front developed an abscess, which has since resolved but continues to bleed.
I would like to know if it is possible to perform a root canal treatment on the anterior molar less than a week after the extraction, considering that I have not yet had my stitches removed.

Hello: It is recommended to wait until the extraction site has completely healed before starting root canal treatment.
Otherwise, the repeated opening and closing of the mouth during each treatment session may hinder the healing process of the wound.

After having your wisdom tooth extracted, it is understandable to have concerns about the timing of further dental procedures, such as root canal treatment on your second molar. Generally, the answer to your question is that it is possible to perform a root canal treatment after wisdom tooth extraction, but there are several important factors to consider.
Firstly, the healing process following a tooth extraction is crucial. After the extraction of your wisdom tooth, your body needs time to heal the surgical site. This healing process typically takes about one to two weeks, during which the extraction site will form a blood clot and begin to heal. If you are still experiencing bleeding or have not had your stitches removed, it is advisable to wait until you have fully healed before proceeding with any additional dental work. Performing a root canal treatment too soon could disrupt the healing process and lead to complications, such as increased bleeding or infection.
Secondly, the condition of the second molar is a significant factor. If the second molar has an infection or is in a state that requires immediate attention, your dentist may recommend proceeding with the root canal treatment sooner rather than later. However, this decision should be made by your dentist based on a thorough examination and possibly imaging studies, such as X-rays, to assess the extent of the infection and the health of the surrounding tissues.
Additionally, the proximity of the second molar to the extraction site of the wisdom tooth can also influence the timing of the root canal treatment. If the extraction site is still inflamed or if there is a risk of complications affecting the second molar, your dentist may advise waiting until the extraction site has healed adequately.
In summary, while it is technically possible to perform a root canal treatment after wisdom tooth extraction, it is essential to prioritize healing and assess the condition of the second molar. It is highly recommended to consult with your dentist or oral surgeon regarding your specific situation. They can provide personalized advice based on your healing progress and the condition of your teeth. If you are experiencing ongoing issues, such as persistent bleeding or pain, do not hesitate to reach out to your dental professional for guidance.
In the meantime, ensure you follow post-operative care instructions, such as maintaining oral hygiene, avoiding hard foods, and managing any discomfort with over-the-counter pain relief as advised by your dentist. Keeping the extraction site clean and monitoring for any signs of infection will also be beneficial as you prepare for any further dental treatments.
