Can I get pregnant?

Hello doctor, I had intercourse with my girlfriend without using a condom.
I felt that I ejaculated outside, and then I wiped it off with tissue.
My hands came into contact with the semen, and after wiping it off, I inserted my fingers again to play around for a bit.
Not long after, we had intercourse again, and I ejaculated outside again, with a significant amount both times.
We did not use a condom.
After wiping it off the second time, I played around again.
Is there a chance of pregnancy from this contact?

When it comes to the question of whether pregnancy can occur from external ejaculation, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the potential risks involved.
Firstly, pregnancy typically occurs when sperm from a male fertilizes an egg from a female. This usually happens through vaginal intercourse, where sperm is deposited directly into the vagina. However, in situations where ejaculation occurs outside the vagina (external ejaculation), the risk of pregnancy is significantly reduced but not entirely eliminated.

In your scenario, you mentioned that there was external ejaculation, and while you attempted to clean up afterward, there are a few factors to consider:
1. Pre-ejaculate Fluid: Even before ejaculation, the male body can release a fluid known as pre-ejaculate (or pre-cum). This fluid can contain sperm, albeit in smaller quantities. If there was any pre-ejaculate fluid that came into contact with the vaginal area, there is a potential risk for sperm to enter the vagina and lead to pregnancy.

2. Sperm Viability: Sperm can survive outside the body for a short period, especially in a moist environment. If any sperm were to remain on your hands after cleaning up, and then were transferred to the vaginal area, there is a possibility of conception occurring.

3. Timing of Ovulation: The likelihood of pregnancy also depends on the timing of the female partner's ovulation cycle. If intercourse occurs during her fertile window (typically a few days before and including the day of ovulation), the chances of pregnancy increase.

4. Contraceptive Measures: It is important to note that relying on external ejaculation as a method of contraception is not considered safe or reliable. There is always a risk of sperm being present and leading to unintended pregnancy.

Given these factors, while the risk of pregnancy from external ejaculation is lower compared to internal ejaculation, it is not zero. If you and your partner are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it may be wise to consider emergency contraception if this incident occurred within the appropriate time frame (usually within 72 hours) and to consult with a healthcare provider for further guidance.

In conclusion, while external ejaculation reduces the likelihood of pregnancy, it does not eliminate it entirely. If you are actively trying to avoid pregnancy, it is advisable to use reliable contraceptive methods, such as condoms or hormonal birth control, to ensure greater protection. If you have further concerns or questions about fertility and contraception, consulting with a healthcare professional can provide personalized advice and options based on your specific circumstances.
