Penile issues
1.
I have a dark spot on my foreskin that is flat and has not changed in size for quite some time.
I'm not sure if it is a mole or a dark patch.
2.
There seems to be a hard horizontal structure under the glans that becomes prominent during an erection, but is not noticeable when flaccid, although I can still feel it.
However, after taking a shower, it seems to be undetectable and does not protrude.
I would like to know what this could be.
Thank you.

Hello: 1) Dark-colored substances should be evaluated by a healthcare professional; they are mostly harmless.
2) They could potentially be vascular-related issues.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to concerns regarding penile health, particularly dark spots and hard lumps, it's essential to approach the situation with a clear understanding of potential causes and the importance of seeking professional medical advice.
1. Dark Spots on the Penis: The presence of a dark spot on the foreskin that is flat and has not changed over time could be a benign condition such as a mole (nevus) or a hyperpigmented area. In many cases, these spots are harmless and do not require treatment. However, it is crucial to monitor any changes in size, color, or shape, as these could indicate a need for further evaluation. Dermatological conditions such as lentigines (age spots) or even seborrheic keratosis can also present as dark spots. If the spot is new or has changed, or if there are any associated symptoms like itching or bleeding, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist or urologist for a thorough examination.
2. Hard Lump Under the Glans: The hard structure you describe beneath the glans that becomes more prominent during an erection could be a normal anatomical feature, such as the corpus spongiosum or the frenulum, which can feel more pronounced when engorged with blood. However, if this lump is new, painful, or associated with other symptoms like discharge or changes in urination, it could indicate a condition such as Peyronie's disease, which involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, leading to curvature and discomfort. Another possibility could be a cyst or a benign growth, which can sometimes be felt under the skin.
In both cases, while some findings may be benign, it is essential to have any new or concerning changes evaluated by a healthcare professional. They may perform a physical examination and, if necessary, imaging studies or biopsies to rule out any serious conditions.
Additional Considerations:
- Self-Examination: Regular self-examination of the genital area can help in early detection of any changes. Familiarizing oneself with the normal anatomy can aid in identifying abnormalities.
- Hygiene: Maintaining good hygiene is crucial for preventing infections and other complications. Ensure that the area is clean and dry, especially after bathing.
- Sexual Health: If you are sexually active, consider discussing any concerns with your partner and practicing safe sex to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which can also present with similar symptoms.
- Mental Health: Concerns about genital health can lead to anxiety and stress. It is important to address these feelings and seek support if needed.
In conclusion, while dark spots and hard lumps on the penis can often be benign, it is vital to remain vigilant and consult a healthcare provider for any concerns. Early intervention can lead to better outcomes and peace of mind.
