Erectile dysfunction
Hello doctor, about 1 to 2 months ago, I read online that doing a motion similar to masturbation could make the penis larger, so I tried it for a few days.
However, after a few days, I noticed that I couldn't achieve an erection as firm as before.
I'm not sure if I might have strained something.
After 1 to 2 months, I was able to get an erection again, but it still feels a bit weak, and I'm worried it won't get as hard as it used to.
Recently, I've been testing myself by masturbating about 3 to 4 times a week, and in the last three days, I've done it 3 to 5 times.
Now, I find that I don't have much reaction when thinking about sexual things or watching adult videos, but I can still get an erection when I hold my penis myself.
However, when I try to think about other things, it quickly goes away.
How should I handle this? Could this be caused by psychological factors? I smoke, and I usually go to bed between 2 to 5 AM.
Could my late sleeping habits be related to this?

It is recommended to adjust your lifestyle by quitting smoking, going to bed early, and reducing the frequency of masturbation.

More Info
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition that can affect men of all ages, and it can be caused by a variety of physical and psychological factors. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing a combination of concerns that may be contributing to your ED. Let's break down the potential causes and solutions.
Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
1. Physical Factors:
- Vascular Health: Smoking is a significant risk factor for vascular diseases, which can impair blood flow to the penis and lead to difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.
- Hormonal Changes: Testosterone levels can affect libido and erectile function. If you have concerns about hormonal imbalances, it may be worth discussing this with a healthcare provider.
- Nerve Damage: Activities that involve excessive or aggressive manipulation of the penis, such as the technique you mentioned, can potentially lead to nerve or tissue damage, which might affect erectile function.
2. Psychological Factors:
- Anxiety and Stress: Concerns about performance can create a cycle of anxiety that exacerbates ED. The fear of not being able to achieve a firm erection can lead to increased anxiety, which can further inhibit sexual arousal.
- Desensitization: Frequent masturbation, especially if it is done in a way that is not aligned with typical sexual experiences, can lead to a decrease in sensitivity or arousal when engaging in sexual activities with a partner or even when thinking about sexual situations.
3. Lifestyle Factors:
- Sleep Patterns: Inadequate sleep can affect hormone levels and overall health, contributing to ED. Sleep is crucial for recovery and hormonal balance, and irregular sleep patterns can lead to fatigue and decreased libido.
- Smoking: As mentioned, smoking can impair blood circulation, which is essential for achieving an erection.
Solutions and Recommendations
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: It’s essential to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare professional who can perform a thorough evaluation. They may recommend tests to check for underlying conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, or hormonal imbalances.
2. Lifestyle Modifications:
- Quit Smoking: If you smoke, consider quitting. This can improve your overall health and may help restore erectile function.
- Improve Sleep Hygiene: Aim for a regular sleep schedule. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, and create a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Exercise Regularly: Physical activity can improve circulation, boost testosterone levels, and reduce stress.
3. Psychological Support: If anxiety or stress is a significant factor, consider speaking with a therapist or counselor who specializes in sexual health. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can be particularly effective in addressing performance anxiety.
4. Limit Masturbation: While masturbation is a normal activity, excessive or aggressive techniques can lead to desensitization. Try to moderate the frequency and consider varying your techniques to avoid potential issues.
5. Medication: If lifestyle changes and psychological support do not yield improvements, medications such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (e.g., Viagra, Cialis) may be prescribed by your doctor to help achieve and maintain an erection.
Conclusion
Erectile dysfunction can be a complex issue involving both physical and psychological components. It is important to address both aspects to achieve the best outcomes. By consulting with a healthcare provider, making lifestyle changes, and possibly seeking psychological support, you can work towards improving your erectile function and overall sexual health. Remember, you are not alone in this, and help is available.
