Urological Discomfort After Ejaculation: Causes and Solutions - Urology

Today's question?

Hello doctor, I have two situations that I need your help with.
I have a habit of masturbating 3-4 times a week, but since last week, after one instance of ejaculation, I experienced a burning sensation in my urethra.
My natural reaction was to hold it in, as it felt like something was trying to come out.
I have never encountered this before, so the next day I masturbated again to observe.
After ejaculation, I still felt that burning sensation, but this time I didn't hold it in, and nothing came out.
When I urinated, the volume was low, but there was no pain during urination, and the burning sensation lasted only a few minutes.
If I quickly urinate, it goes away, but it is uncomfortable, and I would like to know the cause.

The second situation is that since the burning sensation in my urethra started after ejaculation, I feel like I can't fully empty my bladder when urinating, and when I strain, a fluid similar to semen (light milky white, stickier than semen, but odorless) comes out.
I hope you can help me, thank you!

Hello: The information provided here is for reference only and cannot replace a physician's examination of your condition.
If you are taking medication, you should check whether it affects ejaculation.
If you are not taking any medication, it is likely related to prostate issues.
In this case, if there has been any unsafe sexual activity, you should seek medical attention.
If there has been no unsafe sexual activity and you are not taking any medication, you can start by drinking more water, limiting alcohol intake, avoiding spicy foods, and engaging in mild exercise.
Do not hold your urine for too long, and observe your symptoms for 2-3 days.
If the symptoms persist, please seek medical evaluation.
If you experience painful urination, cloudy urine, or difficulty urinating during this period, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

The symptoms you are experiencing after ejaculation, particularly the burning sensation in the urethra and the feeling of incomplete urination, can be concerning and may have several underlying causes. Here’s a detailed analysis of your situation, along with potential solutions.

Possible Causes
1. Urethritis: This is an inflammation of the urethra, which can be caused by infections (bacterial or viral) or irritation. Given that you have experienced discomfort after ejaculation, it is possible that you may have developed urethritis. This condition can lead to symptoms such as burning during urination, discharge, and discomfort after ejaculation.

2. Prostatitis: Inflammation of the prostate gland can also cause discomfort in the urethra and may lead to pain after ejaculation. Prostatitis can be acute or chronic and may be associated with urinary symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and a sensation of incomplete emptying.

3. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: Tension or dysfunction in the pelvic floor muscles can lead to discomfort during and after ejaculation. This can also cause a sensation of incomplete urination.

4. Overstimulation: Frequent masturbation can sometimes lead to temporary sensitivity or irritation of the urethra, especially if done vigorously. This can result in a burning sensation or discomfort.

5. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): If there is any possibility of exposure to STIs, it is crucial to consider this as a potential cause of your symptoms. Infections like chlamydia or gonorrhea can lead to urethritis and associated symptoms.

Suggested Solutions
1. Hydration: Ensure you are well-hydrated. Drinking plenty of water can help dilute your urine and may alleviate some of the burning sensations.

2. Avoid Irritants: Try to avoid any irritants such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, which can exacerbate urinary discomfort.

3. Modify Sexual Activity: Consider reducing the frequency of masturbation for a short period to see if your symptoms improve. Gentle techniques may also help reduce irritation.

4. Warm Compresses: Applying a warm compress to the pelvic area may help relieve discomfort.

5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given the persistence of your symptoms, it is advisable to consult a urologist. They may perform tests, such as a urinalysis or cultures, to rule out infections or other underlying conditions.
6. Medication: If an infection or inflammation is diagnosed, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications to help alleviate your symptoms.

7. Pelvic Floor Therapy: If pelvic floor dysfunction is suspected, a referral to a physical therapist specializing in pelvic health may be beneficial.

Conclusion
While occasional discomfort after ejaculation can occur, persistent symptoms warrant further evaluation. It is essential to address these symptoms promptly to prevent any potential complications. A healthcare provider can offer a tailored approach based on your specific symptoms and medical history. Remember, open communication with your doctor about your symptoms is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment.
