Frenulum problems of the glans?
Ten days ago, I underwent a circumcision, and the doctor also performed a frenuloplasty.
My frenulum is still red and swollen, and there is some discharge.
The doctor advised me to remove the gauze and keep it dry, but the wound has not yet scabbed over.
I have been taking medication and applying ointment, but there has been no improvement.
How should I manage the frenulum in this condition? Will it heal? It seems like everyone else recovers in about a week.

Hello: After circumcision surgery, if there is redness, swelling, or discharge at the frenulum or other areas, it is likely due to small wounds that are still healing.
Be careful to avoid getting the area wet, and keep it clean and dry.
If it does get wet, be sure to disinfect it.
The wounds will heal quickly.
Wishing you good health.

Managing post-operative issues after circumcision, especially concerning the frenulum, can be a delicate matter. It is not uncommon for patients to experience some degree of redness, swelling, and discharge in the days following the procedure. However, it is essential to monitor these symptoms closely to ensure proper healing and to rule out any potential complications.
In your case, the fact that you are experiencing persistent redness and swelling ten days post-surgery, along with some discharge, suggests that the healing process may not be proceeding as expected. While some degree of inflammation is normal after such a procedure, significant or prolonged symptoms could indicate an infection or other complications.
Here are some steps you can take to manage your situation:
1. Keep the Area Clean and Dry: It is crucial to maintain proper hygiene in the area to prevent infection. Gently clean the area with mild soap and water, and pat it dry. Avoid using any harsh soaps or chemicals that could irritate the skin.
2. Follow Your Doctor's Instructions: If your doctor has advised you to keep the area dry and to remove the gauze, it is essential to follow those instructions. However, if you feel that the discharge is excessive or if the redness and swelling worsen, you should contact your healthcare provider for further advice.
3. Monitor for Signs of Infection: Look for signs of infection, which may include increased redness, swelling, warmth, pus or other discharge, and fever. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.
4. Medication: If you have been prescribed antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications, ensure that you take them as directed. If you feel that the medications are not effective, discuss this with your doctor, as they may need to adjust your treatment plan.
5. Avoid Irritation: Wear loose-fitting underwear and avoid activities that may irritate the area, such as vigorous exercise or sexual activity, until you have fully healed.
6. Follow-Up Appointment: If your symptoms do not improve or if you have concerns about the healing process, it is essential to schedule a follow-up appointment with your healthcare provider. They can assess the area, determine if there is an infection, and provide appropriate treatment.
7. Patience in Healing: Healing times can vary significantly from person to person. While many individuals may heal within a week, others may take longer, especially if there are complications or if the individual has underlying health conditions that affect healing.
In conclusion, while it is common for the frenulum to take some time to heal after circumcision, persistent symptoms warrant further evaluation. It is essential to maintain good hygiene, monitor for signs of infection, and follow your doctor's recommendations. If you have any concerns or if your symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. They are best equipped to assess your situation and provide the necessary care to ensure a smooth recovery.
