Post-circumcision care
Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask, I am 18 days post circumcision, and the sutures are currently coming out.
However, there is one suture that seems to have fallen out, and I can see a bit of red tissue, like the inner flesh, located just below the frenulum.
The other sutures appear to be normal with no issues.
Should I return for a follow-up appointment?

Hello: If there is no redness, swelling, or discharge, and you take good care of the wound, it is mostly a common situation.
If you are truly concerned, you can return for a follow-up.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
After circumcision, it is common for patients to have concerns about the healing process and any unusual symptoms that may arise. In your case, you mentioned that you are 18 days post-surgery and that one of the stitches appears to have fallen out, revealing some redness and what looks like internal tissue. It’s understandable to be concerned about this situation.
First and foremost, it is important to monitor the healing process closely. In the days following circumcision, the area may appear red and swollen, which is a normal part of the healing process. However, if you notice any significant changes, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, it may indicate an infection or other complications.
The fact that you see a stitch that has fallen out and some redness could be concerning, especially if it is accompanied by pain or discomfort. The presence of internal tissue being visible is also a sign that you should seek medical advice. While some stitches may dissolve on their own, if a stitch has come out prematurely or if there is any exposure of underlying tissue, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider.
Here are some key points to consider regarding when to seek medical advice after circumcision:
1. Signs of Infection: If you experience increased redness, warmth, swelling, or discharge that is yellow or green, these could be signs of an infection. Fever or chills may also accompany an infection.
2. Pain Management: While some discomfort is expected after surgery, if you experience severe pain that is not relieved by over-the-counter pain medications, it is important to consult your doctor.
3. Wound Healing: If you notice that the wound is not healing as expected, or if you see any unusual changes in the appearance of the surgical site, it is best to have it evaluated.
4. Stitches: If stitches are falling out prematurely or if you have concerns about the way they are healing, it is important to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can assess whether the remaining stitches are adequate for proper healing.
5. Follow-Up Appointments: It is generally recommended to have a follow-up appointment after circumcision to ensure that everything is healing properly. If you have not yet had this appointment or if you feel that your situation warrants it, do not hesitate to schedule a visit.
In summary, given your description of the situation, it would be prudent to contact your healthcare provider and discuss your concerns. They may recommend coming in for an evaluation to ensure that your healing process is on track and to address any potential complications. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to post-operative care. Your health and well-being are the top priority, and your doctor will be able to provide the best guidance based on a thorough examination.
