Rheum palmatum
I purchased a single capsule of Ropivacaine at Taipei City Hospital for 72 TWD, but I bought a box of Ropivacaine at another dermatology clinic for 1960 TWD, which makes it about 70 TWD per capsule.
Is it possible that the latter is a counterfeit product? Could Dr.
Jiang please clarify this for me? Thank you!

Dr. Jiang Zheen reply Dermatology
I believe it is all true.
As for the price differences, it may be due to the hospitals adding a portion of administrative fees.
Wishing you safety.

When it comes to skin treatments like Roupai (柔沛), it's essential to understand the factors that can influence pricing and authenticity. The price discrepancies you’ve observed between the National Taiwan University Hospital and other dermatology clinics can stem from several reasons, but it does not necessarily indicate that the product is counterfeit.
Firstly, the cost of medications can vary significantly based on the location of purchase. Hospitals often have different pricing structures compared to private clinics. Hospitals may offer medications at a lower price due to bulk purchasing agreements or government subsidies, especially for essential medications. On the other hand, private clinics may charge higher prices to cover overhead costs, including rent, staff salaries, and other operational expenses.
Secondly, the formulation and packaging of the product can also affect the price. If the product is packaged differently or if there are variations in the formulation (for example, different concentrations of active ingredients), this could lead to differences in cost. Always check the packaging for any discrepancies in labeling or expiration dates, as these can be indicators of authenticity.
Moreover, it’s crucial to consider the source of the medication. Purchasing from reputable pharmacies or directly from healthcare providers is always advisable. If you have concerns about the authenticity of the product you purchased from a private clinic, you can consult with a pharmacist or your healthcare provider. They can help verify whether the product is genuine and appropriate for your condition.
In terms of effectiveness, if you have been using Roupai and have noticed improvements in your skin condition, that is a positive sign. However, if you experience any adverse effects or if the treatment does not seem to be working as expected, it is essential to follow up with your dermatologist. They can provide guidance on whether to continue with the current treatment or consider alternative options.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that some skin treatments may require consistent use over time to see significant results. If you have switched products or clinics, it may take some time for your skin to adjust and for you to see the desired effects.
In conclusion, while price discrepancies can raise concerns about the authenticity of a product, they are not definitive proof of counterfeit goods. Always consult with healthcare professionals regarding any concerns about medications, and ensure that you are purchasing from reputable sources. If you have further questions or need clarification about your treatment, don’t hesitate to reach out to your dermatologist for personalized advice.
