Umbilical issues
Recently, while cleaning my belly button with tissue, I accidentally dug a bit too deep and noticed a color resembling blood stains, so I stopped cleaning.
The next day, I woke up to find that my belly button had a strong odor, but it wasn't painful or itchy.
The following day, I noticed I had gone to the bathroom a couple more times than usual.
After that, I started experiencing bloating and nausea, but the situation isn't very severe (my belly button hasn't broken the skin, but I applied a small amount of antibacterial ointment to it).
Do I need to see a gastroenterologist for medication?

Hello! Based on your description, there may be localized inflammation around the navel.
It is important to maintain cleanliness in the area, but avoid excessive force.
If there continues to be discharge or redness and swelling, it is advisable to seek medical attention at a healthcare facility.

When it comes to issues related to the belly button, it's important to understand the potential causes and when to seek medical attention. Based on your description, it seems you may have experienced some irritation or minor trauma to your belly button area, which has led to some unusual symptoms such as odor, slight changes in bowel habits, and feelings of bloating and nausea.
Firstly, the belly button, or navel, is a sensitive area that can be prone to infections, especially if there is any trauma or if it is not kept clean. The presence of a "blood-like" stain after cleaning could indicate minor bleeding or irritation, particularly if you were too vigorous in your cleaning. The odor you mentioned is also a common sign of a possible infection or buildup of bacteria, especially if there is any moisture trapped in the area.
The fact that you are not experiencing pain or itching is a positive sign, as these symptoms often indicate a more serious infection. However, the development of bloating and nausea could suggest that your body is reacting to the irritation or infection, or it could be unrelated gastrointestinal issues.
Here are some key points to consider regarding your symptoms:
1. Infection Signs: If the odor persists, or if you notice any redness, swelling, or discharge from the belly button, these could be signs of an infection. Infections in this area can sometimes require antibiotic treatment, especially if they worsen.
2. Bowel Changes: The slight increase in bowel movements could be a response to stress or anxiety about the situation, or it could indicate a gastrointestinal issue. If this change continues or worsens, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider.
3. Bloating and Nausea: These symptoms can arise from a variety of causes, including dietary changes, stress, or gastrointestinal disturbances. If these feelings persist, it may be beneficial to discuss them with a doctor.
4. Self-Care: In the meantime, continue to keep the area clean and dry. Avoid using harsh soaps or excessive scrubbing, as this can further irritate the skin. If you choose to use an antibacterial ointment, apply it sparingly.
5. When to See a Doctor: If you notice any worsening of symptoms, such as increased pain, fever, persistent odor, or if the bloating and nausea do not resolve, it would be prudent to see a healthcare professional. A visit to a gastroenterologist may be warranted if gastrointestinal symptoms persist, while a dermatologist or primary care physician could address concerns related to the belly button.
In summary, while your symptoms do not seem to indicate an urgent medical issue at this moment, monitoring your condition is essential. If any new symptoms arise or if existing symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
