Can I get pregnant? Is it normal to have brown discharge while taking antibiotics?

Hello Doctor, I had to take anti-inflammatory medication and antibiotics due to dental work in early and mid-September.
1.
My menstrual period was from September 2 to September 7.
On September 7, towards the end of my period, I engaged in foreplay with my boyfriend, but there was no penetration, only finger contact.
I would like to know if there is a possibility of coming into contact with pre-ejaculate fluid that could lead to pregnancy.
2.
On September 9, I noticed some blood-tinged discharge.
The next day, I visited a gynecologist who mentioned that it could be related to the antibiotics and prescribed me some medication.
After a few days, the blood-tinged discharge resolved.
However, during a follow-up dental appointment in mid-September, I was prescribed antibiotics again.
On September 23, I noticed brown discharge and immediately went to see the gynecologist again.
They suggested that it might also be due to the antibiotics, but the doctor was uncertain and prescribed more medication.
Now, I have had brown discharge for six days, and although I have been taking the medication as prescribed, there has been no improvement.
The brown discharge is not heavy, approximately the same amount as a period lasting 4-5 days.
I am very concerned after researching online that this could be a sign of early pregnancy or implantation bleeding.
Could you please provide me with some reassurance? Thank you, Doctor.

1.
For pregnancy concerns, please take a home pregnancy test or visit a gynecologist for examination and evaluation four weeks after your most recent sexual intercourse.
2.
The menstrual cycle can be affected by various psychological and physiological factors.
If your period is more than two months late, it is recommended to consult a gynecologist for examination and evaluation.

When it comes to concerns about brown discharge during pregnancy, especially in relation to antibiotic use, it's important to understand the underlying causes and implications.
Firstly, let's address the possibility of pregnancy. If your menstrual cycle was from September 2 to September 7, and you engaged in sexual activity on September 7, the likelihood of pregnancy from that encounter is quite low, especially if there was no vaginal penetration. Sperm can survive for a few days in the female reproductive tract, but the timing of ovulation is crucial. If you have a regular cycle, ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before your next period. Therefore, if your cycle is consistent, it is unlikely that you would conceive from that encounter.

Now, regarding the brown discharge you experienced after taking antibiotics, it is essential to note that antibiotics can indeed affect the vaginal flora and lead to changes in discharge. Brown discharge often indicates old blood, which can occur for various reasons, including hormonal fluctuations, irritation, or even the remnants of your menstrual cycle. In early pregnancy, some women may experience light spotting or brown discharge, which can be due to implantation bleeding, but this is usually accompanied by other signs of pregnancy, such as a missed period or positive pregnancy test.

In your case, since you have been taking antibiotics and have had a recent gynecological examination, it is plausible that the brown discharge is a side effect of the medication or a result of hormonal changes rather than an indication of pregnancy. The fact that your doctor suggested the discharge could be related to the antibiotics is a reasonable explanation.
If the brown discharge persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, cramping, or a foul odor, it is crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may want to conduct further tests to rule out any infections or other underlying issues.
In summary, while antibiotics can cause changes in discharge, the brown discharge you are experiencing is likely not a direct indicator of pregnancy, especially given the timing of your menstrual cycle and the nature of your sexual activity. However, if you have concerns about potential pregnancy or the effects of the antibiotics, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and reassurance. They can provide you with the most accurate information based on your medical history and current symptoms.

Early pregnancy with pink or brown discharge may indicate embryo instability and a potential risk of a mild miscarriage. The use of suppositories is intended to treat vaginal infections and is not related to the vagina itself. It is recommended to continue using them.
