Menstrual issues
Hello, I would like to inquire because I have been taking menstrual regulation pills and my periods have been normal.
However, at the end of last month, I visited a gynecologist for an infection, and the doctor prescribed medication and a suppository for me, and also performed a Pap smear.
This month, my period is late and I only have a little bit of brown discharge, sometimes none at all.
I would like to know if this is normal.
Is it possible that the medication had a strong effect? Thank you for your response.

The menstrual cycle is influenced by various psychological and physiological factors.
If menstruation does not occur for more than two months, it is recommended to consult a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology for examination and evaluation.

Menstrual irregularities can be a common concern following gynecological treatments or medication changes. In your case, it seems that you have been taking medication to regulate your menstrual cycle, and after a recent visit to a gynecologist where you received treatment for an infection and underwent a Pap smear, you are experiencing a delay in your menstrual period, along with changes in the color and flow of your menstrual discharge.
Firstly, it is important to understand that various factors can contribute to menstrual irregularities, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, changes in medication, and underlying health conditions. The medications prescribed for your gynecological infection could potentially influence your menstrual cycle. Antibiotics, for example, can disrupt the natural balance of hormones and flora in your body, which may lead to changes in your menstrual cycle. Additionally, if the medication you received was hormonal in nature, it could also directly affect your menstrual regularity.
The presence of brown discharge instead of a typical menstrual flow can indicate old blood that is taking longer to exit the body. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including hormonal imbalances or the effects of recent treatments. It is not uncommon for menstrual cycles to be disrupted after gynecological procedures or treatments, especially if they involve hormonal medications or interventions.
If your menstrual irregularities persist, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include blood tests to check hormone levels, an ultrasound to assess the health of your reproductive organs, or further examinations to rule out any underlying conditions that may be contributing to your symptoms.
In summary, while it is possible that the medications you received could be influencing your menstrual cycle, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you experience any additional concerning symptoms, such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or persistent irregularities, seeking medical advice is crucial. Your healthcare provider can help determine the cause of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment options to restore your menstrual cycle to normal.
