Shortness of breath?

Hello Doctor: I have been coughing a lot lately...
and when I take a deep breath, I feel a lot of pain in my heart...
sometimes I feel a bit dizzy...
there's a little bit of phlegm...
the pain in my heart is really intense...
I would like to ask...
is it possible that I have SARS??...
I do not have a fever...
Doctor, if it were SARS, would I definitely have a fever??? Or is it possible to have SARS without a fever...
Is SARS currently completely treatable??...
Can an X-ray show whether or not I have SARS??...
My biggest concern right now is the pain in my heart when I take a deep breath...
Please help me answer these questions...
Thank you!!

The symptoms of SARS include fever, cough, muscle aches, diarrhea, and shortness of breath.
SARS is diagnosed based on medical history, clinical symptoms, chest X-rays, and blood tests for the virus.
Most patients with SARS can recover and be discharged.
Chest pain during deep breathing may be caused by pleuritis or myalgia, rather than SARS itself.

When considering your symptoms of persistent cough, chest pain during deep breathing, and occasional dizziness, it’s important to approach the situation with a comprehensive understanding of potential causes, including the possibility of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). However, based on the information provided, it seems less likely that your symptoms are indicative of SARS, especially since you do not have a fever.

SARS is primarily characterized by a sudden onset of fever (typically over 38°C or 100.4°F), along with respiratory symptoms such as cough, difficulty breathing, and muscle aches. While it is possible for some patients to present with atypical symptoms or to not exhibit a fever, the absence of fever significantly reduces the likelihood of SARS. Additionally, the typical progression of SARS includes severe respiratory distress, which is not mentioned in your case.

The chest pain you experience during deep breathing could be attributed to several other conditions. One common cause is pleuritis, which is inflammation of the pleura (the membranes surrounding the lungs). This condition can cause sharp chest pain that worsens with deep breaths, coughing, or sneezing. Another possibility is musculoskeletal pain, which can occur due to muscle strain or inflammation in the chest wall. Anxiety can also manifest as chest pain and may be exacerbated by breathing difficulties.

Dizziness can be a result of various factors, including dehydration, anxiety, or even a respiratory condition that affects oxygenation. If your cough is producing phlegm, it may indicate a respiratory infection, such as bronchitis, which can also lead to chest discomfort and breathing difficulties.

Regarding your question about the diagnosis of SARS, it is not solely determined by symptoms or chest X-rays. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of clinical evaluation, patient history, and laboratory tests, including PCR tests for the SARS-CoV virus. While chest X-rays can show pneumonia or other lung issues, they cannot definitively diagnose SARS.
As for treatment, SARS has been managed with supportive care, and while there is no specific antiviral treatment for SARS, most patients recover with appropriate medical attention. The focus is on managing symptoms and preventing complications.

In conclusion, while your symptoms warrant attention, they do not strongly suggest SARS, especially in the absence of fever. It would be advisable to consult with a healthcare professional who can perform a thorough evaluation, possibly including imaging studies and laboratory tests, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. If your symptoms persist or worsen, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial to rule out any serious conditions.
