Pain during masturbation?
Hello Doctor: I have recently started masturbating in the past few weeks.
Previously, I had no issues with manual stimulation, but a few days ago, when I tried using lubricant for masturbation, I experienced a dull pain on the left side of the internal penis near the glans after what I suspect was excessive force and duration.
I then masturbated two more times (dry) and the pain persisted.
Normally, touching the painful area causes discomfort, and when I retract the foreskin while urinating, it also hurts (but not when it's not retracted).
Interestingly, there is no pain when I am erect, regardless of pressure applied.
I have a few questions: 1.
Will this condition resolve on its own? If so, how many days might it take? Should I apply an anti-inflammatory ointment? If it doesn't improve, should I go to the hospital for an examination? 2.
Once it heals, will I still be able to masturbate?

Trauma can indeed cause pain, and it is recommended that you seek medical evaluation for examination.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing discomfort during masturbation, particularly after using lubrication and applying pressure to the area. This can be concerning, and it's important to understand the potential causes and solutions to your situation.
1. Understanding the Pain: The pain you're describing, especially localized near the glans (the head of the penis) and the left side of the internal shaft, could be due to several factors. Overexertion during masturbation, especially if done vigorously or for an extended period, can lead to temporary irritation or inflammation of the sensitive tissues. This is often referred to as "friction burn" or simply irritation. The fact that you experience pain when touching the area but not during an erection suggests that the tissues may be inflamed or irritated rather than indicating a more serious underlying condition.
2. Will It Heal on Its Own?: In most cases, mild irritation or inflammation will resolve on its own within a few days. It's advisable to give your body some time to heal. Avoiding further irritation, such as vigorous masturbation or using irritating substances, will help. If the pain persists beyond a week or worsens, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination.
3. Use of Anti-inflammatory Creams: Applying a topical anti-inflammatory cream may help alleviate discomfort, but it's crucial to ensure that any product used is safe for sensitive areas. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream can sometimes be used for mild irritation, but it's best to consult with a healthcare provider before applying any medication to the genital area.
4. When to Seek Medical Attention: If you notice any of the following, you should seek medical attention:
- Persistent pain that does not improve after a few days.
- Swelling, redness, or discharge from the penis.
- Pain during urination or blood in your urine.
- Any other unusual symptoms that concern you.
5. Can You Continue to Masturbate?: Once the irritation has healed, you should be able to resume masturbation. However, consider adjusting your technique to prevent recurrence. Here are some tips:
- Use plenty of lubrication to reduce friction.
- Avoid excessive force or prolonged sessions until you're sure the area has fully healed.
- Pay attention to your body's signals; if you feel discomfort, it may be best to stop and allow time for recovery.
6. Preventive Measures: To prevent future occurrences, consider the following:
- Experiment with different types of lubrication to find one that is gentle and effective for you.
- Take breaks during masturbation to avoid prolonged pressure on sensitive areas.
- Ensure that your technique is gentle and not overly aggressive.
In summary, while the pain you're experiencing is likely due to irritation from recent activities, it should resolve on its own with some care. If symptoms persist or worsen, don't hesitate to seek medical advice. Remember, taking care of your body and being mindful of how you engage in sexual activities is essential for your overall health and well-being.
