Drug side effects
Hello, doctor: I would like to ask if the following three medications—"Shengda" Difenidol enteric-coated tablets, Changli enteric-coated tablets 50 mg (Nicametate), and "Longbo" Deanshu film-coated tablets—can cause a delay in menstruation?
Ting, 40~49 year old female. Ask Date: 2021/10/28
Dr. Huang Shenggang reply Pharmacology
Hello Ting: Thank you for your question.
The common side effects of Difenidol hydrochloride coated tablets include thirst, heartburn, and mydriasis.
The common side effects of 50 mg of Metoclopramide coated tablets include nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, palpitations, flushing, fatigue, and dizziness.
Long-acting Clonazepam coated tablets can help stabilize mood and improve mental state, but they may also cause side effects such as insomnia, blurred vision, urinary retention, and dry mouth.
There is no evidence that these medications affect the menstrual cycle.
If needed, please consult a physician for a proper diagnosis to determine the cause.
Thank you.

More Info
The medications you mentioned—"生達" (Difenidol), "暢利" (Nicametate), and "隆柏" (Dexamethasone)—can potentially affect your menstrual cycle, but the extent and nature of these effects can vary based on individual health conditions, dosage, and duration of use.
1. Difenidol (生達): This medication is primarily used as an antiemetic, which means it helps to prevent nausea and vomiting. While it is not commonly associated with menstrual irregularities, any medication that affects the central nervous system can potentially influence hormonal balance, which in turn could impact the menstrual cycle. However, significant effects on menstruation are not typical.
2. Nicametate (暢利): This medication is used to treat conditions related to blood circulation and is not typically linked to menstrual cycle changes. However, any medication that alters blood flow or vascular health could theoretically have an indirect effect on menstruation, especially if it influences the overall hormonal environment.
3. Dexamethasone (隆柏): This is a corticosteroid that can have a more pronounced effect on the menstrual cycle. Corticosteroids can influence the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and may lead to hormonal imbalances. Long-term use of dexamethasone can result in changes in menstrual patterns, including amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) or irregular cycles. This is particularly true if the medication is used in high doses or for extended periods.
In summary, while Difenidol and Nicametate are less likely to cause significant menstrual irregularities, Dexamethasone has a higher potential to affect your menstrual cycle due to its impact on hormonal regulation. If you are experiencing changes in your menstrual cycle after starting these medications, it is essential to consult with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your situation, consider other factors that may be contributing to menstrual irregularities (such as stress, weight changes, or other medications), and provide guidance on managing any side effects.
Additionally, it is important to remember that individual responses to medications can vary widely. Factors such as age, overall health, existing medical conditions, and lifestyle can all play a role in how medications affect your body. If you have concerns about your menstrual cycle or the effects of your medications, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and support. They can help you weigh the benefits and risks of your current medications and explore alternative treatments if necessary.
