Eye twitching?
I previously played baseball but suffered two eye injuries, one to my left eye last September and another to my right eye this April.
Recently, I noticed seeing some red objects that seem to be moving.
What could be the cause of this?

Experiencing flickering or moving red spots in your vision, especially after sustaining eye injuries, can be concerning. The symptoms you describe may be related to several potential causes, particularly given your history of eye trauma.
Firstly, the flickering red spots you see could be a manifestation of what is known as "visual floaters." Floaters are small particles or clumps of collagen that form in the vitreous humor, the gel-like substance that fills the eye. They can cast shadows on the retina, leading to the perception of spots or strands in your vision. While floaters are common and often harmless, they can become more noticeable after an eye injury due to changes in the vitreous or retina.
Another possibility is that the flickering sensation could be related to retinal issues. After an eye injury, there is a risk of developing conditions such as retinal tears or detachments. These conditions can lead to symptoms like flashes of light, increased floaters, or even a curtain-like shadow over your vision. If the flickering is accompanied by any sudden changes in vision, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention, as these conditions can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly.
Additionally, the flickering could be related to the healing process of the eye after trauma. The eye is a delicate organ, and any injury can lead to inflammation or changes in the way the eye processes visual information. This can sometimes result in visual disturbances, including flickering or shimmering lights.
Given your history of eye injuries, it is essential to consult with an eye care professional, preferably an ophthalmologist, who can conduct a thorough examination. They may perform tests such as a dilated eye exam to assess the health of your retina and vitreous humor. Imaging tests like optical coherence tomography (OCT) may also be used to get a detailed view of the retina and any potential issues.
In the meantime, it is advisable to monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice any worsening of the flickering, new floaters, flashes of light, or any other significant changes in your vision, seek medical attention immediately. Protecting your eyes from further injury is also crucial, so consider wearing protective eyewear during activities that pose a risk to your eyes.
In summary, while the flickering red spots you are experiencing could be due to benign floaters, they may also indicate more serious conditions related to your previous eye injuries. A comprehensive evaluation by an eye care professional is essential to determine the exact cause and appropriate management. Your eye health is vital, and addressing any concerns promptly can help preserve your vision.
