There is a red bump on the penis that is slightly itchy?
Previously at the Veterans General Hospital, I had a white growth on my penis that a dermatologist immediately identified as a wart.
They performed cryotherapy (one session), and after six months, only a dark scar remained.
I would like to know what medication I can apply, as it is somewhat noticeable! Today, while showering, I noticed a red bump on my penis that looks like a pimple and is itchy.
However, it is about 2 centimeters away from the original wart.
What could that be?

When it comes to the appearance of a red bump on the penis, especially one that is itchy, there are several potential causes that should be considered. Given your previous experience with a wart-like growth (which was diagnosed as condyloma acuminatum, commonly known as genital warts), it is understandable to be concerned about the new bump.
Firstly, genital warts are caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear as small, flesh-colored or red bumps and may be itchy or uncomfortable. The fact that this new bump is located a couple of centimeters away from the previous wart raises the possibility that it could be another wart, especially if you have had unprotected sexual contact with an infected partner. However, it is also important to note that not all red bumps are warts.
Other potential causes of a red, itchy bump on the penis include:
1. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles, often caused by bacterial infection, irritation, or blockage. It can present as red, itchy bumps that resemble pimples.
2. Contact Dermatitis: This condition occurs when the skin reacts to an irritant or allergen, such as soaps, lotions, or latex from condoms. It can cause red, itchy patches or bumps.
3. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are normal anatomical variations and do not require treatment.
4. Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV): This viral infection can cause painful blisters or sores on the genital area. If the bump is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, burning, or flu-like symptoms, it may be worth considering.
5. Other sexually transmitted infections (STIs): Infections such as syphilis or molluscum contagiosum can also present with red bumps on the genital area.
Given the variety of potential causes, it is crucial to seek a professional evaluation from a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist or urologist. They can perform a physical examination, take a detailed history, and possibly conduct tests to determine the exact nature of the bump.
In terms of treatment, it is essential to avoid self-medicating without a proper diagnosis. If it is indeed another wart, treatments may include topical medications, cryotherapy (freezing), or other procedures. If it is an infection or dermatitis, appropriate topical or oral medications may be prescribed.
As for the scarring from the previous wart treatment, there are topical treatments that may help improve the appearance of scars, such as silicone gel sheets, vitamin E oil, or over-the-counter scar creams. However, these should be used only after consulting with a healthcare provider to ensure they are appropriate for your skin type and condition.
In summary, while the red bump could potentially be another wart, it is essential to consider other possibilities and seek medical advice for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help manage any underlying conditions effectively and alleviate any discomfort you may be experiencing.
