Eye problems
I would like to ask about a situation where, in the dark with a slight light source, I notice a flickering appearance above and below my eyes (similar to a rotating fan) and sometimes it feels like tears are swirling around my eye socket.
What could be happening with my eyes? Additionally, I would like to know what muscle symptoms improve in relation to the eye muscles.
Thank you.

Due to the lack of similar symptoms encountered in clinical practice, we are unable to address your concerns.
If you continue to experience discomfort or if it affects your daily life, it is advisable to visit an ophthalmologist for an examination.

More Info
When experiencing flickering lights and tear sensations in the eyes, it is essential to understand the underlying mechanisms and potential causes. The symptoms you describe, such as seeing flickering lights or sensations of tears moving around the eye, can be attributed to several factors related to eye health and function.
Flickering Lights
The flickering sensation you experience, especially in low-light conditions, may be related to how your eyes adapt to changes in light. When you are in a dark environment and suddenly exposed to light, your eyes need time to adjust. This adjustment process can sometimes lead to visual disturbances, such as seeing flickering or shimmering lights. This phenomenon is often due to the way the retina processes light signals. If you are focusing on a specific point and notice flickering in your peripheral vision, it could also indicate a temporary disruption in the visual processing of your brain.
Additionally, if you have underlying conditions such as high myopia (nearsightedness) or vitreous detachment, these can contribute to visual disturbances. In high myopia, the elongation of the eyeball can lead to changes in the retina and vitreous body, which may cause symptoms like flashes or floaters. If you have previously experienced issues like floaters or flashes of light, it is crucial to have regular eye examinations to monitor any changes.
Tear Sensation
The sensation of tears swirling around your eyes could be related to several factors, including dry eye syndrome or excessive tearing. In dry eye syndrome, the eyes do not produce enough tears or the right quality of tears, leading to discomfort. This can create a sensation of dryness or a feeling of something in the eye, which might be perceived as tears moving around. On the other hand, excessive tearing can occur as a reflex response to irritation or dryness, leading to a feeling of tears pooling in the eye.
Eye Muscle Symptoms
Regarding the improvement of eye muscle symptoms, this typically refers to the muscles that control eye movement. Conditions such as strabismus (misalignment of the eyes) or convergence insufficiency (difficulty in maintaining eye alignment when focusing on nearby objects) can affect how the eye muscles function. If you are experiencing symptoms related to eye muscle function, such as difficulty focusing or eye strain, it may be beneficial to engage in eye exercises or vision therapy. These exercises can help strengthen the eye muscles and improve coordination, leading to better visual comfort and function.
Conclusion
In summary, the flickering lights and tear sensations you are experiencing could be linked to several factors, including how your eyes adapt to light, underlying refractive errors, or conditions affecting the tear film. It is essential to consult with an eye care professional for a comprehensive examination to determine the exact cause of your symptoms. They may recommend specific tests, such as a visual field test or optical coherence tomography (OCT), to assess the health of your retina and optic nerve. Regular eye check-ups are crucial, especially if you have a history of eye issues, to ensure that any potential problems are identified and managed promptly.
