Pimple formation on a wound?
Hello doctor, last year I had an irregular mole on my back that was excised in September.
At that time, the doctor mentioned that the mole had some changes, but removing it was fine.
Recently, I noticed that the excision site feels somewhat like a pimple, slightly painful, and it feels a bit raised when touched.
It appears somewhat dark on the surface (as shown in the image).
It has been less painful these days, but I would like to ask if this is normal?

I'm sorry, but current medical regulations prohibit online diagnoses in this manner.
If you are experiencing significant distress, it is advisable to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

It is understandable to feel concerned about changes at a surgical site, especially after a procedure like the removal of a mole or lesion. Based on your description, it seems that the area where the mole was removed is presenting some symptoms that could be concerning, such as a pimple-like sensation, slight pain, and a change in color.
Firstly, it is not uncommon for surgical sites to undergo various changes during the healing process. After a surgical procedure, the body goes through a healing phase that can include inflammation, swelling, and the formation of scar tissue. These changes can sometimes lead to sensations that feel similar to a pimple, including tenderness or a raised area.
The appearance of the site can also change as it heals. The skin may appear darker or discolored due to the healing process, which can include increased pigmentation in the area. This is often a normal response as the skin regenerates and repairs itself. However, if the area is painful, continues to swell, or shows signs of infection (such as increased redness, warmth, or discharge), it is essential to seek medical attention.
In your case, since you mentioned that the area feels slightly painful and appears to be raised, it would be prudent to consult with your surgeon or a dermatologist. They can perform a thorough examination to determine if what you are experiencing is a normal part of the healing process or if it requires further intervention.
Additionally, it is worth noting that any changes in a previously removed lesion should be monitored closely. If the area continues to change, or if you notice any new symptoms, it is crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend imaging studies or a biopsy if there is any concern about recurrence or other complications.
In summary, while some changes at a surgical site can be normal, it is always best to err on the side of caution. Regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider can help ensure that your healing process is on track and that any potential issues are addressed promptly. If you have any further concerns or if the symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your doctor for advice and reassurance.
