What is the likelihood of getting pregnant?

Hello Doctor, my situation is as follows: My girlfriend's menstrual periods were from December 23 to December 26 and from January 22 to January 26.
We had intercourse on January 26 without a condom and did not ejaculate inside; I only inserted a few times and immediately pulled out when I felt the urge to ejaculate.
When I pulled out, I did not see any discharge on the glans.
After that, I intentionally squeezed my penis, and some white fluid came out (I am not sure what this white fluid is, and I am uncertain if it came out during insertion).
Later, I rinsed it off and continued to have intercourse with a condom.
After finishing, I removed the condom following the normal procedure.
My girlfriend started her ovulation period on February 3.
I would like to ask the doctor: (1) Based on the above, since she entered her ovulation period on February 3, can we rule out the possibility of pregnancy, or do we have to wait until her menstrual period in February to confirm? (2) I found information online stating that ovulation occurs regardless of whether there is a pregnancy or not; some say it does, and some say it doesn’t, so I would like to ask the doctor for the correct answer.
Thank you for your response, Doctor!

Hello, the questioner: There is a possibility of pregnancy even if ejaculation has not occurred during intercourse, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
For women with shorter menstrual cycles, there may still be a risk during the fertile window.
Ovulation does not occur during pregnancy.
It is recommended to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info

Understanding the chances of pregnancy and how to optimize them is crucial for couples trying to conceive. Based on the information provided, let's break down your situation and address your questions.

1. Understanding Your Cycle and Timing
Your girlfriend's menstrual cycle appears to be regular, with her last periods noted from December 23-26 and January 22-26. If her cycle is approximately 28-30 days, ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before the start of her next period. This means that if her next period is expected around February 22-26, ovulation would likely occur around February 6-10.
You mentioned that you had intercourse on January 26, which is just a few days before her expected ovulation. While you did not ejaculate inside her, it is important to note that pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm. Therefore, there is still a possibility of pregnancy from that encounter, even if it seems minimal.

2. Confirming Pregnancy
To determine if your girlfriend is pregnant, the most reliable method is to wait until after her expected period in February. Home pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period, as they measure the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Testing too early can lead to false negatives, as hCG levels may not be high enough to detect.

3. Ovulation and Menstrual Cycle
Regarding your question about ovulation, it is true that ovulation can occur regardless of whether a woman is pregnant or not. If a woman is not pregnant, her body will continue to prepare for the next cycle, which includes ovulation. However, if she is pregnant, ovulation will cease, and her menstrual cycle will be interrupted. Therefore, the presence of ovulation does not necessarily indicate whether or not she is pregnant; it is a normal part of the menstrual cycle.

4. Emotional Considerations
It's also worth mentioning that the emotional aspect of trying to conceive can be significant. Anxiety and stress about the possibility of pregnancy can affect both partners. While it’s natural to feel excited or anxious, excessive worry may impact your girlfriend's menstrual cycle and overall health. Encouraging open communication and support can help alleviate some of this stress.

5. Conclusion
In summary, based on your timeline, there is still a possibility of pregnancy from the encounter on January 26. To confirm whether your girlfriend is pregnant, it is best to wait until after her expected period in February and then take a home pregnancy test. Understanding the menstrual cycle and ovulation can help you both optimize your chances of conception in the future. If you have ongoing concerns or questions, consulting with a healthcare provider or a fertility specialist can provide personalized guidance and support.

Remember, every couple's journey to conception is unique, and patience is key. Good luck!
