Sharp pain in the lower right abdomen?
Hello Doctor, I visited a gynecologist on February 22 due to lower abdominal pain.
After an ultrasound examination, it was determined that I had ovarian inflammation and enlargement.
After two weeks of medication treatment, I almost completely recovered.
However, yesterday, March 11, I suddenly started experiencing sharp pain in the lower abdomen near the right hip bone.
There is no specific point of tenderness, but the pain occurs when walking or moving my right leg.
The pain is particularly noticeable when I lie flat and bend my right knee, pulling it towards my body with both hands.
Could this pain be due to ovulation, or could it be a muscle strain? I haven't experienced anything like this before.
I would appreciate your advice, thank you!

Understanding right lower abdominal pain can be complex, especially when considering the various potential causes and the individual’s medical history. In your case, you have previously been diagnosed with ovarian inflammation and have undergone treatment, which seems to have resolved that issue. However, the sudden onset of pain near the right hip area raises several possibilities.
Firstly, it is important to consider that pain in the right lower abdomen can stem from various sources, including gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and gynecological issues. Given your history of ovarian inflammation, it is reasonable to consider whether this new pain could be related to your ovaries or other reproductive structures. Ovulation pain, also known as mittelschmerz, can occur around the time of ovulation, which typically happens about two weeks before your next menstrual period. This pain can manifest as a sharp or cramping sensation on one side of the abdomen, and it might be exacerbated by certain movements, such as bending or lifting your leg.
However, since you mentioned that the pain is particularly noticeable when you lie down and pull your knee towards your chest, it could also indicate a musculoskeletal issue. Muscle strains or ligament sprains in the abdominal or hip region can cause localized pain, especially during certain movements. If you have recently engaged in any physical activity that could have strained these muscles, this might explain the sudden onset of pain.
Additionally, it is essential to rule out other potential causes of right lower abdominal pain, such as appendicitis, which can present with pain that worsens with movement or pressure. Other gastrointestinal issues, such as diverticulitis or bowel obstruction, could also present similarly. In women, conditions such as ectopic pregnancy or ovarian cysts can also cause pain in this area.
Given the complexity of abdominal pain and the potential for serious underlying conditions, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. This may include a physical examination, imaging studies (such as an ultrasound or CT scan), and possibly blood tests to assess for signs of infection or inflammation.
In summary, while your pain could be related to ovulation or a muscle strain, it is crucial to consider a broad differential diagnosis. If the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, nausea, or changes in bowel habits, seek medical attention promptly. Your healthcare provider can help determine the exact cause of your pain and recommend appropriate treatment options.
