Could you please tell me what this disease is, doctor?
Initially, there was an ear infection, and after taking medication, the only remaining symptom is post-nasal drip.
Despite multiple visits to the doctor, it hasn't improved.
Recently, I've been experiencing an itchy throat that makes me want to clear it constantly, and I also feel a sensation of something being stuck in my nasal passages.
The nasal discharge is clear and colorless, and both my taste and smell are normal.
People I have been in close contact with have not shown any signs of infection.
I would like to ask the doctor what these symptoms might indicate.
I have never had allergies before, but based on my research, it seems somewhat similar to allergic rhinitis.
Thank you, doctor.

Understanding your symptoms is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a combination of nasal and throat symptoms that could indeed be indicative of allergic rhinitis, but there are other possibilities to consider as well.
Allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever, is characterized by symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose (often with clear, watery discharge), sneezing, and itchy eyes or throat. The fact that you have a clear nasal discharge and a sensation of post-nasal drip (the feeling of mucus running down the back of your throat) aligns with this condition. Additionally, the itching in your throat and the sensation of something being stuck in your nasal passages can also be associated with allergic reactions.
However, it’s important to note that allergic rhinitis is not the only potential cause of your symptoms. Other conditions, such as non-allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, or even gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), could present with similar symptoms. Non-allergic rhinitis can occur without the typical allergic triggers and may be caused by irritants like smoke, strong odors, or changes in weather. Sinusitis, which is an inflammation of the sinuses, can also lead to nasal congestion and post-nasal drip, often accompanied by facial pain or pressure, although you did not mention these symptoms.
Given that you have a history of ear inflammation, it’s also worth considering that your current symptoms could be related to a lingering upper respiratory issue. Sometimes, infections or inflammation in the ear can lead to secondary symptoms in the nasal passages and throat.
Since you mentioned that you do not have a history of allergies and that those around you have not experienced similar symptoms, it might be less likely that this is an allergic reaction. However, it is still possible for allergies to develop later in life, even if you have not had them before.
To further clarify your condition, it would be beneficial to consult with an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist or an allergist. They can perform specific tests, such as allergy skin tests or blood tests, to determine if you have any sensitivities to allergens. Additionally, they may conduct a nasal endoscopy or imaging studies to evaluate the structure of your nasal passages and sinuses.
In the meantime, there are several management strategies you can consider. Over-the-counter antihistamines can help alleviate symptoms if they are indeed due to allergies. Nasal saline sprays can also help clear mucus and soothe irritated nasal tissues. If your symptoms persist or worsen, a healthcare provider may prescribe stronger medications, such as corticosteroid nasal sprays, which can effectively reduce inflammation in the nasal passages.
In summary, while your symptoms may suggest allergic rhinitis, it is essential to explore other potential causes and seek professional evaluation for a definitive diagnosis. Understanding the underlying cause will guide appropriate treatment and help alleviate your discomfort.
