Can Xie Liao Yu be used for hemorrhoids?
Hello, Doctor.
Recently, for the past week, I have had a hemorrhoid about the size of a soybean at the anal area.
Initially, it was painful, but now it does not bleed or hurt.
When I examine the area, I can see a "dark blue" swollen vein (which should be a hemorrhoid or hemorrhoidal tissue).
Every time I walk, it feels like I have a mung bean stuck in my anus, and I often try to push it back inside, causing significant inconvenience in my daily life, which makes me very upset.
I would like to ask the doctor if I can apply "Xyloproct" on the hemorrhoid to reduce the swelling and help it retract.
Thank you!

Based on your description, it is likely that you are experiencing acute thrombosed hemorrhoids.
This type of hemorrhoid can cause swelling and pain for 1-2 weeks, and complete resolution may take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the size of the thrombus.
Applying topical medications such as Hirudoid can help accelerate the absorption of the thrombus.
If you wish to resolve the issue quickly, you may consider consulting a colorectal surgeon for an outpatient thrombectomy procedure.

Xiliao Yu, commonly known as "喜療瘀" (or "Xiliao Yu" in pinyin), is a topical medication often used in traditional Chinese medicine for its purported benefits in promoting blood circulation and reducing swelling. However, when it comes to treating hemorrhoids, especially in the context of your situation, it is essential to approach the matter with caution and a clear understanding of the condition.
Hemorrhoids, or piles, are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus that can cause discomfort, pain, and sometimes bleeding. They can be classified into two types: internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are located inside the rectum and are usually not visible, while external hemorrhoids are located under the skin around the anus and can be felt or seen. The symptoms you describe, including the presence of a "black and blue" swollen area and discomfort while walking, suggest that you may be dealing with an external hemorrhoid.
Using topical treatments like Xiliao Yu may provide some relief from swelling and discomfort due to its anti-inflammatory properties. However, it is crucial to note that while such treatments can help alleviate symptoms, they do not address the underlying causes of hemorrhoids. Lifestyle factors such as diet, hydration, and bowel habits play a significant role in the development and management of hemorrhoids. Increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, and avoiding straining during bowel movements are essential steps in managing this condition.
Moreover, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before applying any topical medication, especially if you have not previously used it for this purpose. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and the specifics of your condition. If the hemorrhoid is causing significant discomfort or if you notice any changes, such as bleeding or increased pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly.
In addition to topical treatments, there are other options available for managing hemorrhoids. Over-the-counter medications, such as hydrocortisone creams or witch hazel pads, can help reduce inflammation and provide relief. In more severe cases, medical procedures such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or surgical removal may be necessary.
In summary, while Xiliao Yu may offer some symptomatic relief for your hemorrhoid, it is essential to approach treatment holistically. Focus on lifestyle modifications, consult with a healthcare provider for tailored advice, and consider other treatment options if necessary. Remember, effective management of hemorrhoids often requires a combination of topical treatments, lifestyle changes, and, in some cases, medical intervention.
