Finger insertion into the vagina?

On April 24th (just after the risky period), I had sexual intercourse with my girlfriend.
We used a condom throughout and I ejaculated externally, but my hand came into contact with semen.
After going to the bathroom and washing my hands (without soap), I inserted my fingers into her vagina.
I would like to ask the doctor how likely it is for her to become pregnant in this situation?

Please have your partner monitor the menstrual cycle.
If there is a delay, it is recommended to take a home pregnancy test or visit a gynecologist for an examination.
Thank you.

The concern about the possibility of pregnancy from finger insertion after contact with semen is valid, especially when considering the timing of the menstrual cycle and the nature of sperm viability. In your case, you mentioned that you had sexual intercourse during a period that was close to your girlfriend's ovulation, which is typically when the chances of conception are highest.

Sperm can survive outside the body for a limited time, and their viability decreases significantly once they are exposed to air and begin to dry. Generally, sperm can live for a few hours on surfaces, but once they dry out, their ability to cause pregnancy diminishes rapidly. In your situation, since you washed your hands after coming into contact with semen, the likelihood of viable sperm remaining on your fingers is quite low, especially since you did not use soap. However, it is important to note that even a small amount of semen can potentially lead to pregnancy if it comes into contact with the vaginal canal.

The risk of pregnancy from finger insertion after washing your hands is not zero, but it is significantly reduced. If there was any residual semen on your fingers before washing, and if you inserted your fingers into the vagina shortly after, there is a theoretical risk of transferring viable sperm. However, the chances are considerably lower compared to direct ejaculation into the vagina.

To further assess the risk, consider the following points:
1. Timing of Ovulation: If your girlfriend was in her fertile window (typically around 12-16 days before her next expected period), the chances of pregnancy are higher. If you are unsure about her cycle, it may be worth discussing this with her.

2. Sperm Viability: As mentioned, sperm can survive for a short period outside the body, but they require a moist environment to remain viable. Washing your hands likely reduced the risk significantly.

3. Menstrual Cycle Awareness: Understanding the menstrual cycle can help gauge the risk of pregnancy. If her period is late, it may be advisable for her to take a pregnancy test for peace of mind.

4. Emergency Contraception: If there is significant concern about the possibility of pregnancy, emergency contraception (like Plan B) can be considered if taken within 72 hours of potential conception. However, this is typically more relevant for situations involving unprotected intercourse.

In conclusion, while there is a theoretical risk of pregnancy from finger insertion after contact with semen, the actual risk in your described scenario is quite low, especially given the washing of hands. If there are any concerns about potential pregnancy, it is always best to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice and to consider taking a pregnancy test if her period is delayed.
