Postoperative dressing for circumcision?

Hello, doctor.
I underwent circumcision on May 4th, and I returned for a dressing change yesterday.
Due to my shorter flaccid penis and being overweight, I often experience retraction of the penis (inward towards the abdomen) when I get up to walk a few steps or sit down after self-dressing.
This causes the gauze to frequently come loose or become unsecure.
I have also applied an additional piece of breathable tape to secure it to my abdomen, but it still often comes off.
I would like to ask: 1.
How should I properly dress and care for the area? 2.
When redressing in a short period, do I need to disinfect the wound again and apply the antifungal ointment prescribed by the doctor?

Hello: 1.
How should I care for the dressing? --> It should be wrapped for at least 5 days; your description makes it difficult to dress properly.
2.
When re-dressing in a short period, should I disinfect the wound again and apply the antifungal ointment prescribed by the doctor? --> It should be done in the first 2-3 days; if there are no issues with the wound, it won't matter after 4-5 days.
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision care is crucial for ensuring proper healing and minimizing the risk of complications. After undergoing a circumcision, it is common to experience some discomfort, swelling, and changes in the appearance of the penis, especially in the initial days following the procedure. Here are some effective bandaging tips and advice to help you manage your post-operative care:
1. Bandaging Technique:
- Use a Non-Adhesive Dressing: It is advisable to use a non-adhesive dressing that can absorb any drainage without sticking to the wound. This will help prevent pain when changing the dressing.

- Secure the Dressing: To prevent the dressing from falling off, consider using a combination of gauze and a breathable adhesive tape. Make sure the tape is not too tight, as this can cause discomfort and restrict blood flow.

- Positioning: When bandaging, ensure that the penis is positioned comfortably. If you are experiencing retraction (the penis pulling back into the abdomen), try to keep the penis in a downward position while bandaging. This can help reduce the tendency for it to retract.

2. Managing Movement:
- Limit Activity: It is important to limit excessive movement, especially in the first few days post-surgery. If you find that walking or sitting causes the dressing to loosen, consider reducing your activity level until the area has had more time to heal.

- Supportive Underwear: Wearing supportive underwear can help keep the penis in place and reduce movement that might lead to the dressing coming loose.

3. Changing the Dressing:
- Frequency of Changes: You should change the dressing as recommended by your healthcare provider, typically every 1-2 days or whenever it becomes wet or soiled.
- Cleaning the Wound: Each time you change the dressing, it is important to clean the area gently with saline solution or as directed by your doctor. If your doctor has prescribed an antibiotic ointment (like Gentamicin), apply a thin layer after cleaning the wound before placing a new dressing.

4. Signs of Infection:
- Monitor for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge that is yellow or green. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

5. Pain Management:
- If you experience discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used as directed. Always consult your physician before taking any medication.

6. Follow-Up Care:
- Attend all follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider. They will assess your healing progress and make any necessary adjustments to your care plan.

In summary, effective post-circumcision care involves proper bandaging techniques, managing movement, and maintaining cleanliness to promote healing. If you have any concerns about your healing process or if you experience unusual symptoms, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. Your health and comfort are the top priority during this recovery period.
