Can I get pregnant?

Hello Doctor, I helped my boyfriend put on a condom the day before ovulation.
While putting it on, my hand touched the glans and came into contact with pre-ejaculate fluid, meaning that my hand, which had touched the pre-ejaculate, also touched the tip of the condom.
We did not have penetration, only external rubbing.
Is there a possibility of pregnancy in this situation? (My boyfriend mentioned that he ejaculated yesterday and has urinated 4 to 5 times since then.
Is there still a possibility of sperm being present in the pre-ejaculate?) Thank you for taking the time to reply, and I wish you good health.
Thank you, Doctor.

Hello, theoretically, there should be no pregnancy, so please don't worry.

The concern about the possibility of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate fluid and external friction is a common question, especially among those who are trying to avoid pregnancy. To address your question, it is important to understand the mechanics of ejaculation, the nature of pre-ejaculate fluid, and the conditions under which pregnancy can occur.

Pre-ejaculate, or pre-cum, is a fluid released by the Cowper's glands during sexual arousal. Its primary function is to lubricate the urethra and neutralize any acidity that may be present from urine, creating a more favorable environment for sperm. While pre-ejaculate itself typically contains fewer sperm than ejaculate, it is still possible for it to contain viable sperm, especially if the male has recently ejaculated and not urinated since. Urination can help clear out any residual sperm from the urethra, but it is not a foolproof method.

In your scenario, you mentioned that your boyfriend had ejaculated the day before and had urinated multiple times since then. While urination can reduce the likelihood of sperm being present in pre-ejaculate, it does not completely eliminate the risk. If any pre-ejaculate fluid came into contact with the condom, there is a potential risk of sperm being transferred, even if penetration did not occur.

External friction, or outercourse, can also pose a risk for pregnancy if there is sufficient transfer of sperm to the vaginal area. Sperm can swim, and if they are deposited near the vaginal opening, there is a possibility, albeit lower than with direct intercourse, that they could travel into the vagina and lead to fertilization.

Given the timing of your cycle, being just before ovulation, the risk of pregnancy is heightened. The days leading up to ovulation are considered the most fertile period in a woman's cycle, and sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days. Therefore, if viable sperm were present, there is a chance of conception occurring.

In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate and external friction is lower than from penetrative intercourse, it is not zero. If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, consider taking a home pregnancy test if your period is late, or consult with a healthcare provider for further guidance. Additionally, if you are looking to prevent pregnancy in the future, discussing reliable contraceptive methods with a healthcare professional would be beneficial.

In conclusion, while the chances of pregnancy from the situation you described are not as high as with full intercourse, there is still a possibility. It is always best to err on the side of caution and consider effective contraceptive methods to prevent unintended pregnancies.
