Facial issues
Hello, Doctor.
Around October last year, I noticed a bump on my forehead.
I went to see a dermatologist, who said it felt hard, so it wasn't within their area of responsibility.
I then visited a neurologist, who also said it wasn't really their specialty.
Previously, pressing on it would cause some pain, but recently, if I lean on the table, it hurts, and even light touches can be painful.
Sometimes, I experience sudden sharp pain, and my eyebrow on the same side occasionally feels sore.
I would like to ask what this condition might be.
Thank you.

1.
Recently, if there are symptoms of redness, swelling, heat, and pain, it may indicate an infection or inflammation.
2.
For facial skin or subcutaneous tumors, you may consult with a plastic surgery outpatient clinic.
Thank you.

Understanding forehead bumps can be quite complex, as they can arise from various underlying conditions. Based on your description, it seems that you have a hard bump on your forehead that has been present since last October. You mentioned that it is painful to touch and can cause discomfort when pressure is applied, along with occasional sharp pain and a sensation of soreness around the eyebrow area on the same side.
There are several potential causes for a bump on the forehead, and it is essential to consider these possibilities to determine the appropriate treatment options. Here are some common causes:
1. Sebaceous Cyst: These are non-cancerous lumps that can form under the skin when a sebaceous gland becomes blocked. They are usually painless but can become tender if inflamed or infected.
2. Lipoma: A lipoma is a benign tumor made of fat tissue. They are soft to the touch and usually painless, but if they press on nearby nerves, they can cause discomfort.
3. Dermatofibroma: This is a benign growth that can feel firm and may be slightly raised. They are usually harmless but can be painful if they are irritated.
4. Osteoma: This is a benign bone growth that can occur on the skull. Osteomas are typically hard and can cause pain if they press on surrounding tissues.
5. Infection or Abscess: If the bump is painful and has changed in size or appearance, it could be due to an infection or abscess, which would require medical treatment.
6. Trauma: If you have had any recent injuries to the forehead, a bump could be a result of trauma, leading to a hematoma or swelling.
7. Neurogenic Pain: Given that you experience sharp pain and discomfort around the eyebrow, it could also be related to nerve irritation or entrapment, which may require evaluation by a neurologist.
Given the symptoms you described, particularly the pain upon pressure and the sharp sensations, it is advisable to seek further evaluation. Here are some steps you can take:
- Consult a Dermatologist: Since your bump has been persistent and painful, a dermatologist can perform a thorough examination and may suggest a biopsy or imaging studies (like an ultrasound or CT scan) to determine the nature of the bump.
- Neurological Evaluation: If the pain persists or worsens, a neurologist may be able to assess for any nerve involvement or other neurological conditions that could be contributing to your symptoms.
- Pain Management: In the meantime, over-the-counter pain relief medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help alleviate discomfort. However, it is essential to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new medication.
- Avoid Pressure: Try to avoid putting pressure on the bump, as this can exacerbate pain and discomfort.
- Monitor Changes: Keep an eye on any changes in the bump, such as increased size, redness, or drainage, and report these to your healthcare provider.
In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the bump on your forehead, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is crucial to determine the exact nature of the bump and to develop an appropriate treatment plan. Your symptoms warrant further investigation to ensure that any underlying issues are addressed effectively.
