Vision Problems: Glasses, Clarity, and Eye Coordination Issues - Ophthalmology

Vision problems

Hello, when I wear glasses, I have difficulty seeing small text clearly, whether it's close or far away.
Without glasses, I can see small text more clearly when I bring it closer (meaning that small text appears clearer without glasses).
When I wear glasses, the details of the strokes are not clear, but without glasses, the strokes appear clear.
Is this because my prescription is suitable for distance vision (myopia -500, astigmatism -300), or does wearing glasses make the distance for clear vision farther away, making it hard to see things that are too close? However, my vision is not very good (visual acuity 0.3), so even at a farther distance, I can't see clearly.
Additionally, when using my phone or typing on the computer, I often press the wrong keys, which could possibly be related to my eyesight.
Could this be due to poor hand-eye coordination or errors in distance judgment? Thank you for your response.

Hello, Xin: Because the vision in your eyes requires objects to be very close in order to see them, wearing glasses makes it difficult for your eyes to focus.
Without glasses, you can focus better.
When objects are moved further away to the distance where your eyes can focus with glasses, they still appear unclear due to poor vision.
The difficulty in accurately pressing the keys on the keyboard is likely caused by your poor eyesight.
Additionally, poor vision can also lead to issues with hand-eye coordination.

More Info

Hello! It seems you're experiencing some significant challenges with your vision, particularly regarding clarity when wearing glasses, as well as issues with hand-eye coordination. Let's break down your concerns and provide some insights based on medical knowledge.

Understanding Your Vision Problems
1. Clarity with Glasses vs. Without:
You mentioned that when you wear glasses, small text appears blurry, while without them, you find it clearer. This situation can arise from several factors:
- Incorrect Prescription: If your glasses are not accurately prescribed for your specific vision needs, it can lead to blurred vision. You have mentioned having myopia (nearsightedness) of -500 and astigmatism of -300. If your prescription is not tailored to your current visual acuity, it could explain the discrepancy in clarity.

- Distance Adjustment: Glasses are designed to correct vision at a specific distance. If you are trying to read something very close while wearing glasses meant for distance vision, it may not provide the clarity you need. This is particularly true if your glasses are primarily correcting for distance vision and not accommodating for near tasks.

2. Hand-Eye Coordination Issues:
Your difficulty in accurately pressing keys on a keyboard could indeed be related to your vision. Poor visual acuity can affect your ability to judge distances and coordinate your hand movements effectively. If your eyes are not seeing clearly, it can lead to misjudgments about where your fingers should land on the keyboard, resulting in frequent errors.

Recommendations for Improvement
1. Re-evaluation of Prescription:
It would be beneficial to visit an optometrist or ophthalmologist for a comprehensive eye exam. They can assess your current prescription and determine if adjustments are needed. If you primarily need glasses for reading or close work, you might require a bifocal or multifocal lens, or even a separate pair of reading glasses.

2. Consideration of Visual Fatigue:
Prolonged use of screens (like computers and smartphones) can lead to digital eye strain, which may exacerbate your symptoms. Symptoms can include blurred vision, dry eyes, and difficulty focusing. To mitigate this, consider the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Additionally, ensure that your workspace is well-lit and that you take regular breaks.

3. Hand-Eye Coordination Exercises:
Engaging in activities that require hand-eye coordination can help improve your skills. Simple exercises like playing catch, using a ball to improve your tracking ability, or even video games that require precision can be beneficial.

4. Consultation for Astigmatism:
Since you have astigmatism, it’s essential that your glasses are specifically designed to correct this condition. Astigmatism can cause blurred vision at all distances, and if not properly corrected, it can lead to visual discomfort and strain.

5. Follow-Up on Eye Health:
Given your history of myopia and astigmatism, regular follow-ups with an eye care professional are crucial. They can monitor any changes in your vision and ensure that your corrective lenses are appropriate as your vision evolves.

Conclusion
In summary, your vision issues seem to stem from a combination of potential prescription inaccuracies and the effects of digital eye strain. A thorough eye examination is essential to ensure that your glasses are correctly prescribed for both distance and near vision tasks. Additionally, practicing good eye care habits and engaging in activities to improve hand-eye coordination can help alleviate some of the difficulties you are experiencing. Always remember that your eye health is paramount, and regular check-ups can help maintain your vision quality.

The vitreous body is indeed what is referred to as floaters, which are caused by the degeneration of the vitreous humor within the eye. As for your sense of disorientation, I cannot determine the primary cause. I recommend visiting a clinic for further evaluation by a physician.
